Justice League and
Aquaman star Jason Momoa was a recent guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote season 2 of his Netflix drama,
Frontier. However, he spent a large time discussing his struggle to find work after
Game of Thrones.
"
Yeah, not a lot of people thought I spoke English. It was very challenging. It was like, 'What are you going to do with Drogo? You're not going to put him in a comedy.'
You're pigeonholed a little bit. Actually, the first person who really made me [realize this]- I guess I was bummed out a bit, was your buddy Fred, Fed Armisen. I met him [beacuse] my step-daughter Zoe did Portlandia. He was so excited to meet me. He was amazing. And he was like, '
I didn't even know you spoke English.' It was heartbreaking. That's why I'm not getting any jobs."
Fallon then broke in to remind Momoa that he then found himself cast as Aquaman in a franchise-launching role in Justice League.
"
That whole audition process was pretty crazy. Zack was a huge fan of Game of Thrones. A lot of people are huge fans of Game of Thrones. And Zack was the one. I couldn't get a job [but] he called me in. It was funny because I had no idea who I was going to be playing. He just called me in to audition and it was for Batman but Ben was already cast so I'm like, '
What am I coming in for?'
I thought I was going to be the bad guy and fight Batman and Superman, I'm going to be the villain. And he went, '
No. Aquaman.'"
Justice League hits digital OnDemand February 13 and arrives on blu-ray and DVD on March 13. Aquaman hits North American theaters on December 21.
