JUSTICE LEAGUE: Joss Whedon Sparks Fan Outrage After Liking Several Tweets Attacking Film's Villain

Critics are divided when it comes to Justice League, however, it looks like director and co-writer Joss Whedon has made his thoughts clear on where he stands with the film through a series of tweets...

It’s not news that Zack Snyder chose to step away as director from Justice League after a personal tragedy. Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought in early on by Warner Bros. to rewrite a few scenes and finish up the film for Snyder. While fans were thrilled at the prospect of a respected comic book movie director like Whedon helping bring the Justice League to the big screen the same way he did for Marvel’s The Avengers, things have now quickly changed after a series of tweets that Whedon has liked.

Before this year’s Comic-Con, rumors surfaced that Whedon has made some significant reshoots, which isn’t all that weird, considering the massive production behind Justice League. However, after early reactions appeared on social media about the jarring differences in the pacing between some scenes and the use of visual fx, it wasn’t too difficult to connect the dots.

Not only were the visual fx criticized, but so was the film’s villain, Steppenwolf. Critics and fans seem to agree that the Apokoliptian general was a bit lackluster, and apparently so does Joss Whedon.

Earlier today, Whedon liked several of a critic's tweets that harshly criticized the film’s villain, claiming that "Steppenwolf is the worst comic book movie villain of all time and not even Malekith the Accursed comes close." Of course, fans immediately saw Whedon's likes and were outraged, pointing out how Whedon has praised Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, yet has failed to make any mention of Justice League, the film he's been working on for the past few months.

It's fair to say that Whedon won't be garnering any love from the DC Film fans anytime soon. Let us know your thought about all of this in the usual place below!

Fans have to get that artists can be critical of their own work and if he had anything to do with Steppenwolf then he's in his right to also be hard on himself.

But this shouldn't be that much of a big deal.

@NinnesMBC - I agree, however I do find it interesting that he has given praise to Thor yet hasn't mentioned his own film yet

@NinnesMBC - I don't think the problem here is that Whedon is critical of himself or that he doesn't like the movie. What fans are mad about is who he chose to like criticisms from.

@JourneyIntoMystery - He's not allowed to express genuine enthusiasm for a crazy quirky movie that's more up his alley? The situation behind Justice League is so muddled and tricky at any rate.

@JourneyIntoMystery - Maybe because it really isn't his own film itself. According to Charles Roven Joss just did 15, 20 percent of it, the rest is all Zack Snyder.

@Kr08 - An unfortunate coincidence in that case then.

@NinnesMBC - Yeah. I really don't mind any of this. I'm watching it tomorrow and I'm crazy hyped for it all. I can't wait to see the League together on the big screen.

@MosquitoFarmer - I think it's great that he's enthusiastic about Thor! (God knows I loved it) but to think that he's been working on this film for a while and that he hasn't yet to say anything is a little weird. Justice League is a big movie and to think that if you were responsible for at least 20% of it and you wouldn't say anything about it seems weird to me.

Why is this a big deal, sure he worked on the film, but he didnt have control over the project, if he didnt think the villain was that great, then he should be able to say it. Hopefully Joss directs Justice League 2, he knows how to make bad ass villains.
