Insiders Cast Doubt On The Veracity Of Variety's Claims In Recent Marvel Studios' "Hit Piece"

Variety recently took aim at Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but several reliable sources have since cast doubt on the trade's claims, suggesting it may be an orchestrated hit piece.

Yesterday, Variety published a piece about Marvel Studios' recent misfortunes. Adorning the cover of the site's latest issue, the story sets out to get across the fact that all is not well in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When it comes to the trades, people tend to trust what they have to say because, unlike supposed scoopers and insiders, they have legitimate sources. However, people are now casting doubt on the validity of the story due to the fact it was written by controversial journalist Tatiana Siegel.

A quick Google search reveals that Siegel has come under fire on several occasions, while one fan has rounded up just some of the reasons they believe the information shared in this report shouldn't be trusted.

Has Siegel penned an anti-Marvel hit piece? That's not for us to decide, though many reporters and social media personalities are casting doubt on Variety's claims about both Blade and The Marvels

Collider, for example, claims, "We have heard this report is not true and she was very much involved in the editing process while based in London." Even a former Blade writer was left scratching his head over the suggestion the Daywalker had been made a supporting character in his own movie.

Having combed through our archives, even the story's scoops - Doctor Doom, the return of the original six Avengers, and talk of a female-led Blade movie - can be traced back to Reddit posts and scoopers. One insider even argues Variety has sensationalized those rumours to appeal to a certain segment of its audience.

There's a definite anti-superhero narrative being pushed among certain outlets and reporters in Hollywood, with some seemingly trying to will the genre out of existence like Thanos decimated half of all life in the universe in Avengers: Infinity War

It's all up for debate at the moment but there are problems in Marvel Studios that, as of now, it seems Kevin Feige is attempting to address.

I mean even if it’s all fake, none of that changes the fact that Marvel is only getting worse and worse.

OFF TOPIC But Marvel I'm not the only one.

Loki Season 2 Is Continuing a Bizarre Kang Trend That Can't Go on Forever.

Kang the Conqueror has been portrayed as weak in the MCU, as he has been defeated and killed off in each appearance, hindering his ability to prove his strength.

The upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will feature Kang as the primary antagonist, but given his track record, it seems easy for the Avengers to defeat him.

Marvel Studios has the opportunity to strengthen Kang's character and prove his power before the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, potentially by reversing the deaths of some of his variants or exploring their fates further.

@AllsGood - there's only been one Kang that we've seen have control over time every other kang has been in places where time doesn't matter.

This criticism has been weird to me

@AllsGood - If they just do a live action adaptation of the Kang episodes from EMH, the movie should be pretty amazing.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 11/2/2023, 4:43 PM
@MyCoolYoung - plus , I guess you could say He Who Remains was an antagonist but wasn’t really a villain i feel (atleast completely)

Timely is/was an ally while the only villainous one has been the one from Quantumania

We might not have even met the prime version

It’s obvious that they are taking a different approach to Kang then just building up a singular villain akin to Thanos.
TheGrayGhost
TheGrayGhost - 11/2/2023, 6:07 PM
@AllsGood - Whole Phase leading up Secret Wars should have been Empire Strikes Back type of vibe with Kang winning against whichever/every sect of Avengers he comes across, causing them to need to come together. Only exception being Loki S1 ending with He Who Remains dying, starting the war.

Fine with him losing the battle in Quantomania but Janet should have been killed on his way out and Kang clearly shown escaping the Quantum Realm without his army (he may have survived anyway technically but that's TBD I guess).
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/2/2023, 8:46 PM
@TheVisionary25 -

One of the biggest things people forget is Kang is just a man with tech. Prime Kang would mop the floor with the avengers. The conqueror in antman would've beat them but time doesn't work in quantum realm

Did anyone actually read the report? It's pretty substantive and they back up a lot of their claims.

1.) Blade has been in development for years at this point. They've gone through two directors and how many drafts of a script?
2.) They're painting themselves into a corner with the Loki finale. They couldn't re-write or reshoot due to the strikes and are unsure of how they're going to reverse course on Jonathan Majors. We'll know more about this with the Loki finale?
3.) Marvel's D+ series are overbudgeted and the vfx workers at Marvel have unionized after how they were treated on Quantumania. Not sure how any one can argue this? This has been widely reported for a while
4.) Nia DaCosta left The Marvels to work on another project - again, this isn't anything new with Marvel. Their secondary units fingerprints are all over these movies. Even in Wakanda Forever with JLD and Everett Ross, those scenes did not feel like they were directed by Coogler. This wouldn't be surprising to me at all.
