It’s a big day for Star Wars fans, especially for those that are older than 35. Why? I will tell you why…Today is the official 35th anniversary of the release of Star Wars. The first film in the epic series was released on May 25, 1977, under the title Star Wars. It has since become a worldwide science fiction phenomenon with 5 other movies to follow (not to mention a couple reboots).

SuperHeroStuff has tons of new Star Wars T-Shirts and merchandise to help you celebrate. If you act quickly you can save 13% off all of your orders using our special Memorial Day ‘MEM13′ Code.

You ever wonder if when the original Star Wars came out if people would have realized that it would have ever turned into the media behemoth that almost all other space opuses are compared to? Sure, there are those anecdotal stories on how nobody on set thought it would have gone anywhere. There's that story at the end when Luke and Han are being presented their medals and all of the rebels; they were laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing was. Now here we are – saturated by Star Wars – it surrounds us, it moves us, it binds us together. From the youngest child to the oldest crone, Star Wars may be bigger than the Beatles! The Beatles never had lightsabers as far as I know.

Now, I didn't get to start when some of you started watching. I was born in 1983, which means my first experience was with Return of the Jedi when I was just a wee padawan. Sure, it is completely out of order but when you're that young, the most important thing is Ewoks. I'm sure some of you just rolled your eyes. “EWOKS? NO WAY! THEY RUINED THAT MOVIE!” But like I said, to like a 4 year old? Best thing next to Santa Claus and because of them, I was a Star Wars point from there on. I've played all of the games, seen all of the movies innumerable times, even read a ton of those books in the 'expanded universe' and it only keeps getting better and better. You know those Sith Robes we have? I put mine on the moment I get home. I've gone so far to wear it to poker tournaments – some people wear sunglasses and hats to cover their face but if you're playing a game of deception like poker, hook me up with some Dark Side! Does that sound crazy? Eh. Not really. I'm sure you guys can empathize at the very least.

Now, to put another spin on this story I'll tell you about my father. He's a former marine like much of my family and is now currently retired. I made the horrible (or fantastic, depending on your point of view) of introducing him to Star Wars: The Old Republic. It is one of those games that you can easily lose 10 or 20 hours without batting an eye and when you don't need to work any more...well...you get to have some fun! He was never into Star Wars that much, but it is simply amazing to hear him talk about all of these little things that he had learned. I think the most important part of this story and really the major impetus to this rambling incoherent babble is he said to me “I could never had imagine that Star Wars would have ever turned into something like this”. From what I can tell, I think most people would not have known. Would even the most diehard of Star Wars fans think that it would have only gained momentum 30 some odd years later? I don't even think Master Lucas saw this coming. Bell bottom jeans, 8 tracks, and disco is still really popular so...oh wait...I'm being signaled that they aren't. Truth be told, I don't think Star Wars will ever die out and I wouldn't be surprised if 10 or 20 years later we get another set of 3 movies(or this will get me accusations of heresy) a reboot! GASP! A Star Wars reboot? We'll see. Time can be forgiving or cruel and I don't put anything past Hollywood.

My favorite shirt is the 'Wookie Cookies' one – just saying wookie cookies kind of causes this mild mental tic; I can't stop saying it and neither can some of the other people here. It just rolls off your tongue...WOOKIE COOKIE! Then you can just start saying it all of the time and sooner or later it replaces normal language. I was contemplating writing the rest of this in WOOKIE COOKIE but I'm not sure if you guys have the shirt and are able to understand (Wookie Cookie). You can get the Star Wars Wookie Cookie t-shirt here.

We also have a ton of t-shirts that feature plays on either the characters themselves or their outfits. Can't get enough of “Its a Trap?” Well, we have some of those! You can find that shirt here!

Consider yourself a fan of the Fett Man? Well, perhaps you should wear a helmet...or the symbol of Mandalore! You can check it out here!

If t-shirts aren't quite your thing we have belts, jackets, lunchboxes and even stuff for the kiddies! Baby Storm trooper? Check. Clone Wars? Check. I think we have pretty much something for any fans of the Force and a galaxy far far away! Star Wars is a symbol – something that anybody can relate to and love and hopefully we have some things that may help you convey your deep and unwavering faith! You can check out our entire selection on our Star Wars T-Shirts Page.

The i'm you father scene is the prime example of
1:Luke being [frick]ING ANNOYING
2:Despite all the shit people give the prequels (some of it justified not gonna lie) the originals have the same problems. People just refuse to see though the nostalgia and good will they have had since childhood. I saw them all in order 1-6 and they are one awesome (yet very flawed) saga

I would really love to see an all new Star Wars saga. All new score, all new characters. Maybe the rise of the Jedi against the sith or even way earlier than that. New director and everything.

@Gaston i never said they were boring what are you talking about i love the originals but they aren't the holy trinity of film making many claim. The duels, EVERY line from Luke, the rushed realization of who Lea was. All bad, however the prequel have their bad too. Jar-Jar (loved him as a kid but i grew out of that) Young anakin was pretty bad as an actor (the one from Phantom Menace) and there wasn't enough time spent on Anakin and Padme in 2 their relationship felt pretty rushed.

Personally i also prefer the altered versions of 4-6 that align more with 1-3 and have the same voice actor for Jango and Boba, and have revamped CG. On the other hand tho i understand completely why older fans hate it, i only like it because it fits more with what i personally grew up with which is the cohesive saga

@LP4, You lost all credibility by calling it the "Gayest" franchise. Calling anything that isn't a living being "gay" is stupid and juvenile.

I was 10 years old in 77 and we had to wait till the following year to see it in the UK because it was booked up everywhere in advance over its X-mas release. Was a full blooded Star Wars fan up until I saw Return of the Jedi in 1983 and was so deeply offended that I threw my entire collection away.

There are only two Star Wars movies, everything else made after The Empire Strikes Back is done so to first sell merchandise by making up as many superfluous vehicles and characters as possible with silly names to turn into toys and variants.

Star Wars was of it's time. I recently saw all of them on Bluray, and outside of Empire, I was bored to tears. The acting outside of Harrison Ford is mediocre to bad. The dialogue is at times, atrocious, The prequels destroyed the heart of the story, which was the rise and fall of a beloved Jedi soldier, Anakin. Instead we get some stupid plot about governments, trade federation, taxation and midochlorians. Hayden Christenson's incessant whining and horrible acting makes the prequels really unwatchable. Anakin is portrayed as a whiny self absorbed, power hungry mongrel with the mentality of a dictator. He was totally unlikable and I couldn't wait for Obi Wan to lop his head off. Lucas has no imagination. All of these character designs were in all likely hood brought to him by other artists and he just approved them. Just think of the name Star Wars. No one questions it because it is so engraved in pop culture consciousness. Star Wars, Wars in the stars. How dumb. I have grown out of this franchise. What I have come to realize is that SW is for children. Adults that praise it can't rid themselves of their rose colored nostalgia goggles.

Happy 35th Star Wars! I can't believe it's been that long. I was born in '88, so I wasn't lucky enough to see it in theaters first.

The original trilogy is one of my favorite trilogies. And I actually don't hate the prequel films as much as other Star Wars fans do.

I prefer the original trilogy to the prequel trilogy, but in some of the worst prequel films: there are still fun scenes, and great light saber battles.

I also agree with Gaston. And I'm with whoever said make 7, 8, and 9 with a new director and set of characters. Can you imagine how great it would be if Peter Jackson directed Star Wars? Joss Whedon? Spielberg even??? Too bad we can't go back in time...

@BIGBMH- Oh, so I guess i'm not allowed to have an opinion then? Everyone else on this site has their own opinions. As for what I said- lots of people call things "gay" if they don't like it- perfectly normal. You don't like it? Go suck Lucas's left nut fanboy. Fact remains, Lucas [frick]ed himself with the shitty prequels and even shittier and annoying jar jar bitch. [frick] lucas, [frick] star wars and [frick] you

@LP4 - You are an idiot and an asshole.

"Gay" as a negative term, or as a putdown, "perfectly normal" as it might be to you, it's still ignorant and unnecessary.

That's just my opinion.

Well at least my opinion is informed and intelligent.

Yours is just hate-filled and sad.

@CaptainDusty- YOU'RE the idiot. You DO realize this is a website meant for people of different opinions, not everyone here will love the same garbage you do. Everybody uses the term "gay" on this site, i've seen people use it here everyday in various articles. You're just getting upset and prissy about it because this time it was aimed at star wars. THAT makes you anal and oh yeah "juvenile" ;)

And calling someone else who wasn't even talking to you an "idiot and an asshole" makes YOU the idiot and the asshole and how hypocritical- MY remarks were hate-filled and sad? What about the trash you flung at me FIRST.

No, you're ganging up on me for using the term "gay" what are you, fighting for civil rights here on cbm? Give me a [frick]ing break. I can call star wars whatever I want without having to deal with your bitchness. Just as you have the freedom to criticize franchises you don't like on here. You don't see ME 'policing' YOU.
DarthTesla
DarthTesla - 5/26/2012, 12:48 AM
No, I just think that if you're gonna defend the use of the word gay as a derogatory word, then you belong on more of a juvenile site, maybe a Ben-10 centric website.

Don't try to defend being an ignorant douchebag to me. You are simply a troll trying to piss people off with your stupid bigotry.

Oh this is too rich "well at least my opinion is informed and intelligent"

"idiot and an asshole" LMAO yeah really "intelligent"

And no, of course when it comes to something you like you will have an "informed and intelligent" opinion. But i'm pretty sure if it came to a franchise you REALLY hated, you too will leave the same hate-filled and sad comments that YOU'RE condemning. Your holier-than-thou routine won't work with me.
