Like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War before it, Godzilla vs. Kong features a big screen battle between two legends that MonsterVerse fans have been waiting a very long time to see.
By now, many of you will have watched the movie on HBO Max (or even on an IMAX screen) while we're sure some of you are waiting for it to be released in theaters in your country. Either way, we're now breaking down the ending to explain how things pan out for the two title beasts.
In their initial fight at sea, Godzilla emerges victorious in his first battle with Kong, mostly because the water gives him a serious advantage. Later, in Hong Kong, the long-awaited rematch takes place, and it's Kong who stands victorious...briefly. Godzilla soon manages to recover, and after a lengthy, brutal battle, the "King of the Monsters" reigns supreme by slashing at Kong's chest and eventually pinning him to the ground until the giant ape is unable to continue fighting.
Of course, it's at this point Mecha-Godzilla arrives on the scene, and when Kong (who has learned sign language from a little girl) is told that Godzilla isn't his enemy, they team up to beat the giant robot. While Godzilla was overpowered by his mecha counterpart, Kong tears him to pieces, and the former enemies go their separate ways with Godzilla swimming away and Kong finding a new home in the Hollow Earth.
There's no post-credits scene, and it's hard to imagine where things could go next. Ultimately, though, the victor in Godzilla vs. Kong is Godzilla, but the King of Skull Island doesn't come out looking too bad.
