EA Are Currently Working On An Open-World STAR WARS Game!

A job listing for EA's Vancouver studio, which was discovered online, indicates that the team could be working on an open-world Star Wars Project.

Well, this is a surprise.

There was a lot of hype behind Visceral Games' Star Wars project which was led by Amy Hennig, but, it was announced last year that EA would be reshaping the project. If the newest job listing for EA's Vancouver studio is any indication, it looks like that game could now be an open world experience rather than a linear single-player experience.

The listing was discovered by Gamespot on EA Vancouver's career page which advertises a position for a Lead Online Engineer, the role requires someone with experience of "implementing online features" and "implementing online features such as matchmaking, asynchronous interactions, live services, server-host migration, etc." The key responsibilities will be to manage online servers and to ensure that they can manage high traffic.

Based on this job listing it would be fair to say that this is indeed the redesigned Star Wars game and lines up with EA's intentions to make the game " a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore."

EA has remained tight-lipped about this new Star Wars project but I'm willing to bet that we'll hear more about this at E3, with a formal announcement at the very least.

What do you guys think? Are you excited about an open world Star Wars game, or would you have preferred a more focused single player experience?

Sound off below!

If it was anybody but EA working on this, I would be excited. But it's EA, so I'm not.

Boy, oh boy, I can't wait to be forced to make the choice between mindlessly grinding for game progress, or having to pay for a lootbox/microtransaction because that's what the current 'AAA' gaming industry know how to do things.

Then the cherry on top of this garbage cake is that it's an online-only title so even if it does manage to be miraculously good (and I highly doubt it, plus I'm done with EA after they further proved how scummy they are as a "AAA" gaming studio) then in a few years the game will be unplayable because servers will be shut down. Which mean, even if I wanted to play the game again in 10, 20 or even 30 years, I can't because it uses "game as a service" model to screw the consumer over.

Yeah, I'm so hyped for this title >_>
