GODZILLA: Check Out The First Set Photos From Apple TV+'s Untitled Monarch Spinoff Series

The first set photos from Apple TV+'s untitled Godzilla: King of the Monsters spinoff have finally been revealed now that cameras are rolling in Vancouver, Canada.

WandaVision director Matt Shakman is set to helm the first two episodes, but we don't have many other details. So, what do these images tell us about the show? Well, we can see that scenes will be set in a military base, with at least some of the story clearly taking place in Oakland, California.

It's not overly surprising that the military will factor into the series, especially with it taking place in the aftermath of all those Titan attacks. Those monsters (though we don't know which ones) are expected to factor heavily into proceedings, while the spotlight is also going to be turned to the clandestine organisation that's been prevalent throughout all of these movies, Monarch.

Canadagraphs (via SFFGazette.com) has shared a tonne of photos on their website, along with a description of what they saw. "Anna Sawai was on set as 'Cate' doing [two] different scenes," the site explains. "First scene was with Tamlyn Tomita. The first scene saw Anna walk across a lot while people walk around, and a truck rolls through. She comes to a pair of chairs set up in front of tents. There she comes up to Tamlyn's character, and gives her a drink [and] food."

"A bit later, she moved over to the next part of the lot. Here she does a scene with an actor. She walked through a different lot, turns around, sees the man, they run to each other, hug in an excited embrace," the report continues. "They then talk for a while, before having an argument, and the man leaves, and she just stands there looking around."

The untitled project will take place in the aftermath of the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that levelled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, with the focus put on one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.

Stay tuned to SFFGazette.com for the latest on this Godzilla: King of the Monsters spinoff.

Unless this has an insane budget I'm sure we're in for mostly human drama and not a lot of monster mayhem.

If this has the military involvement again, and a San Francisco setting, I'm kinda hoping we get to see Aaron Taylor Johnson return

I've always enjoy Godzilla as a guilty pleasure, and thought the 2014 movie was decent, otherwise I've been meh about the "Monsterverse".

I don't really see how they could sustain a tv show with this premise, unless it's the same old ingredients of 95% stock characters talking and or reacting to things/ 5% monster action. That's gonna get old real fast for most viewers.

Off topic: Roger Corman (mostly) praises the MCU although, his comment about James Cameron...I'm gonna have to disagree. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/roger-corman-marvel-could-improve-210007505.html

Apple seems like a strange home for Big G, but the set photos have piqued my interest.

@Nightmare - I audibly said out loud, "Ow, a piece of candy" and I have no idea what inspired that. Just felt like an appropriate knee jerk thing to say in the moment.

I hope this is as good as the new Netflix Resident Evil show, which is the absolute flawless pinnacle of excellence.

@UGLYsonic - so I guess you're being sarcastic and it really is bad. Good to know I don't have to hurry to watch it, if at all

I just survived episode 1. It's poopy.

@UGLYsonic - Resident Evil really deserves better.

Guess I just have to go back to RE2 and RE3 remakes them, because those are quite cinematic experiences already as well.

@bkmeijer1 - I'd argue the Milla movies are better than this. I honestly don't even know who this shows target audience is supposed to be. Most of the first episode was about 2 teenage girls moving to a new town and having trouble fitting in in high school. The creative choices are absolutely baffling to me, there is a ton of like hip young people music through out, like techno pop songs a teenage girl would listen to. And everyone is acting kinda stupid, and nothing like real people would. It feels like this show belongs on CW or Disney+, but it has bloody gore and F-Bombs. It's clearly not made for fans, and I don't think it's gonna appeal to young girls, or men of any age. I honestly don't understand the direction of this show lol I'm debating giving another episode a shot.

@UGLYsonic - I think the Milla movies aren't that bad at all. Especially the first three.

As for the show, I'm kinda tempted now to actually give it a try. Although I probably won't. Was planning on watching Th Boys S3 first, and then either Umbrella Academy or Stranger Things.

@UGLYsonic - 2 episodes in and it’s so “good” I won’t be able to finish it.

@bkmeijer1 - I'm 2 seasons behind on Umbrella, but I just finished The Boys and Stranger Things and both are really really great. Highly recommend.

I've been debating giving Star Trek Strange New Worlds a try next. I've heard some pretty good things.

Now that is the kinda stuff I need to hear! Haven't heard a ton about Star Trek though

Off topic: Is anyone gonna cover this at all? This guy starts his own comic book company and was trashed on reddit I guess for not being "woke" (moronic phrase) and has made $1.7 million in just 4 days. Why isn't this being covered at all? Shouldn't we all be encouraging and supporting new voices in this industry?
