Here's Why The Millennium Falcon Looks So Different In SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY; New LEGO Set Images Released

Many fans have been wondering why Han Solo's iconic Corellian space freighter looks so different in the Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer, and here co-writer Jon Kasdan offers an explanation. Check it out...

When the first footage for Solo: A Star Wars Story hit, fans noticed that The Millennium Falcon looked quite a bit different to the considerably more beat-up "hunk o' junk" we were used to. Not only was it a much cleaner/shinier with a blue and white paint job, but the structure was also noticeably altered - particularly around the nose of the ship.

No, the Solo movie is not "violating canon" - there's a very deliberate reason for the iconic freighter's appearance in this film.

Co-writer Jon Kasdan explains that they wanted the Falcon to "reflect the personality of its captain,” who, of course, was the much flashier Lando Calrissian before it was Han.

“Where Han gave it a certain shabby coolness and a dinged up quality that reflected where he was at that point in his life, this Falcon reflects its owner very clearly in its shape and aesthetic and his needs, even if those needs be a little more space to entertain.”

We also know that Solo made a few "special modifications" between the events of this movie and A New Hope, which probably explains the structural alterations.

Apparently, the specific reason why the front of the ship has a sleeker silhouette is a bit of a spoiler, but since the Falcon toy comes with a smaller detachable ship.. well, you can probably guess the rest.

Speaking of toys, THR has released images of the new Solo: A Star Wars Story LEGO Millennium Falcon and the minifigs that come with it.

Who's ready for a little Kessel running?

Han Solo, his loyal co-pilot Chebacca, and not-so-trustworthy pal Lando Calrissian. It'll be very interesting to witness the dynamic between the younger versions of these characters.

The massive 1,414-piece Kessel Run Millennium Falcon. Apparently, the ship comes with 2 minifigs which can't be identified because of spoilers. Are we going to be reintroduced to more familiar faces than we realise?

Qi-Ra, who'll be played by Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke. We still don't know a whole lot about this "femme fatale", but chances are she'll spell trouble for Solo before the end.

And finally, we have our first look at a new, but presumably minor character: The Kessel droid.

I actually don’t mind this version of the Falcon. But when it’s all said and done, Han’s will always be my first pick to own... toy or real I don’t mind😊

Kessel droids will be this films porgs I imagine.

@Nightwing1015 - no, it's because Han Solo said that one line in Star Wars A New Hope, "I made a lot of special modifications, she's got it where it counts kid."

@Timerider84 - Yeah, that's possible. I forgot about that line. But when I hear "special modifications" I think of improved engines and technical capabilities, not new interior decor.

I still think Han couldn't degrade the Falcon THAT much in the amount of time between movies, but whatever.

The main reason is to sell toys.

@Primordiac - Toys would sell regardless of the redesign. Isn't this originally Lando's ship? It would reflect him and his stature. And the front looks like an air splitter, perfect for making that Kessel run in 14 parsecs! ;)

umm, this seemed immediately obvious to me when I first saw it. OF COURSE it's going to look a bit different, cleaner, and sleeker. Because, ya see, this is earlier in the time line. Funny how prequels work that way. The ship WAS newer back then.

whole point of this was to sell a whole new generation of falcon memorabilia. they will make a shot ton of money on the merchandising.

@IronGenesis - Wow, Lando referred to the Falcon as a hunk of junk when actually looked a bit cleaner! They should just cancel this movie right now.
