STAR WARS EPISODE VII: Apparently Director Search Down To "A Couple Of Candidates"

Producer Frank Marshall - who's wife Kathleen Kennedy is president of Lucasfilm - has revealed to MTV that he knows who is in line to helm the highly anticipated follow up to Return Of The Jedi. Of course, he isn't spilling the details!..

We recently found out that Oscar winning Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt would be writing the new movies, but what fans really want to know is who will take over from George Lucas as the director on the Star Wars trilogy nobody ever thought we would see. So far pretty much every director with some sci-fi experience or geek cred has been rumored or asked whether they'd be interested in the gig, but we haven't had any real solid info as of yet. Well, we still don't have any names for you, but producer Frank Marshall says that Disney have at least settled on a (very short) shortlist. When asked if he knew would be behind the new movie he replied - "I do, but I can't reveal it, or I won't be alive tomorrow.", adding that although he has no idea when an official announcement will be made, he does know that they have "honed in on a couple of candidates". So, it shouldn't be too long before we hear a name or two to go along with this - hopefully.

Gore Verbinski would be a solid pick. He hasn't had a lot of good scripts to work with, but he is a solid comedy and action director.

My guess is it's between GV and Brad Bird.

Think about it yeah it's cool to direct Star Wars but how scary must it be , knowing if you make garbage like the prequels are you will feel the wrath of literally a billion people Whoever is involved with this has a lot to be worried about.

I'm also going to go with everyone and say that it is probably down to Gore Verbinski and Brad Bird. They both have made a lot of money for Disney and they both have the credentials and ability to make a good quality Star Wars movie.

Lie I said before, I hope Disney hires Peter Jackson as the director of Star Wars Episode 7. There ae other choice like Brad Bird, J.J. Abrams, Ridley Scott, or Gary Ross.

Brad Bird or Neil Blomkamp. I also thought Matthew Vaughn would have been a good pick.

I would say Del Toro but he seemingly likes making slightly smaller scale movies where he has complete control and can make his own vision come to life. With Star Wars we are looking at a 200+ million dollar epic where execs at Disney, the remaining people from LucasFilm are all going to be involved.

Bird is the best possible option

This would be the perfect vehicle for Peter Jackson, if there's one thing hes shown flawlessly it is that he can take someones else's body of work and translate it well enough to the big screen. Hes no visionary which works well cause this isn't his vision. As long as he sticks to the formula that work so well in the LOTR trilogy,{dont try to fix what aint broke} it would sale well and be fun to watch. But God help us if he pulled a King Kong....Wampas would be cuddly.

@ darkmetal

I can see M Knight Shayamalan begging for this. He needs a box office hit bad. Throw the name "Star Wars" on a movie and you'll easily break $500 million without skipping a beat.

I swear name a good director here, SOMEONE will insult him.

NO DIRECTOR IS PERFECT, but Bird exemplifies the themes of fun, seriousness, and adventure in all his movies.

Those traits DEFINE Star Wars
