UPDATE: J.J. Abrams Speaks On His “Wildly Surreal” STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Directorship

Addressing the hotly-announced news of his latest gig, furthermore, J.J. Abrams describes his forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII directorship as “wildly surreal,” while also commenting on his plans.

Considering the hotly-anticipated installment's 2015, unspecified, release date and other inferior gigs J.J. Abrams has forthcoming, we shouldn't expect much, if anything, from the Star Trek Into Darkness director about his direction for Star Wars: Episode VII and beyond. However, that certainly won't refrain media outlets and fans from gushing over the big news in his presence. That was seemingly the case during the Producers Guild of America Awards.

“It really is an incredible thing,” Abrams recently told E! Online. “It's wildly surreal. It's obviously way too early to talk specifics,” Abrams said after being asked whether the original Star Wars cast will return. “But I'm excited to actually start it.” During the PGA Awards, J.J. Abrams was honored with the Norman Lear Achievement Award.

UPDATE: J.J. also spoke with the Huffington Post last night, when he added that, “I can just say what I want to do: I want to do the fans proud. I want to make sure the story is something that touches people. And we're just getting started. I'm very excited.”

J.J. Abrams will be directing Star Wars: Episode VII and Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay. J.J., his longtime producing partner Bryan Burk, and Bad Robot are on board to produce along with Kathleen Kennedy under the Disney | Lucasfilm banner. Also consulting on the project are Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg.

J.J. Abrams drinking game!! Every time you see a lens flare in an Abrams movie, do a shot. Guaranteed you'll be shit-faced halfway through the film.

But, yeah, looking forward to Episode 7.

hes going to be double dicking Lucas and Spielberg the whole time on set. "is this how you guys like it ?, should I go faster or slow down? How about we do this in front of the green screen? that will really get us all off!"

Fingers crossed though

Was the cross out 'inferior' necessary?
And did Trekkies freak out this much when he was announced as director on the first one?
If this was any other franchise everyone would be cool but seeing as it's Star Wars all we're copping is some really defensive comments. It's happening guys and it can't be any worse than the prequels. We can only go up and Abrams will do that and even if it's only just better than Revenge (which would be amazing) it doesn't mean he's doing the whole new trilogy. We have two more shots after this to redeem the Saga. So calm your farms please.

Abrams admitted that he was more of WARS fan when he took on TREK. So Trekkers who felt Abrams destroyed their beloved franchise (I'm not one ofnthem -- LOVE his take on it) would probably be overjoyed that he's stepping back a bit to do something he really loves.

Kasdan and Kinberg are writing Star Wars spin-offs. It was originally said that they were working on Episodes VIII and IX, but then it was reported that they're doing films not a part of the sequel trilogy. It's pretty cool that they're consulting on VII as well (particularly Kasdan). And I'm glad that they got an amazing director and a great writer for this project. Still can't believe the film is being made.

What's the story behind the altered title logo? Is it a change Disney has made?

I really hope the old cast is not in the new move, and maybe no Jedi to start with, the prequels milked the shit out them.

@BossWalsh You mad bro?
Very excited to see him direct, I can't understand why the [frick] there are so many haters. He's a talented man, and a genuine person as we saw with the dying Star Trek fan story. Looking forward to Episode VII.

It's pretty well known that Abrams took the Star Trek gig because he knew nothing about it and would be able to come into it with a fresh take. In my opinion, I think he's done amazing things for the Star Trek universe. Considering that Abrams has confessed to being a life-long Star Wars fan, I'm really excited to see what he'll do with the franchise.

JJ Abrams loves Star Wars and has studied the older films immensely as a filmmaker. A lot of what he does is influenced by Star Wars so I think this will end up very nicely

It'll be interesting to see what Arams does with star wars because it doesnt quite need the rehashing that Star Trek obviously needed, Im sure hes going to avoid the 3 prequels and take all his inspiration from the original 3, it'll be the mixing of CGI and physical pupppetry, animatronics and sets where this film will fail or succeed to a degree... Its going to be incredibly interesting to see how he pulls this off because there are so many pitfalls you could easily fall into when making movies like these. Altho he's done plenty of Sci Fi before he hasnt done anything like Star Wars its still pretty unique

Keep Lucas as far away as humanly possible before he casts a whiny One Direction member to be the main villain.

Who can forget the, ....Anikan just got his legs cutt off by his brother like mentor. Feeling the heat from the lava and his impeding doom. Anika takes all his anger and yells out, "I Hate you!!!!!" the only thing missing is, "I'm going to my room".
