He's back.

Last July marked the 25th anniversary of James Cameron's beloved Terminator 2: Judgment Day and this year, to celebrate, the sci-fi classic is returning to theaters... in 3D!

Distrib Films US and Carolco Pictures announced today that the film, which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, will be re-released on August 25, which is coincidentally just four days ahead of the twenty-year anniversary of the day when Skynet was supposed to become self-aware a.k.a. Judgment Day.

These 3D re-releases have proven to be quite fruitful for studios in recent years, especially in the growing international market where a number of classics have turned into major box office successes once again, including the top three of Titanic 3D ($343.5M), The Lion King 3D ($185.5M), and Jurassic Park 3D ($116.5M).

Check out the official trailer below:

The Terminator returns in this explosive action-adventure spectacle. Now he's one of the good guys, sent back in time to protect John Connor, the boy destined to lead the freedom fighters of the future. Sarah Connor, John's mother, a quintessential survivor has been institutionalized for her warning of the nuclear holocaust she knows is inevitable. Together, the threesome must find a way to stop the ultimate enemy-the T-1000, the most lethal Terminator ever created.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day featured:
Director: James Cameron
Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800
Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor
Edward Furlong as John Connor

Eh... I love the movie, but don't feel the need to see it in 3D.

Also, pretty cool retrospective on James Gunn's upbringing and rise to Marvel.

@MUTO123 - I have been coming to this site for years and have never commented before, mostly because it's become so hateful at time and is full of pretentious opinions. I mostly like the humor of the gifs some folks post, although there not as fun as they once were. BUT that having been said I just wanted to say thank you MUTO123 for the great link to the James Gunn article! See its things like your post that keep me coming. Thanks again it was a great read.

Did the original trailer give away Arnie being the good guy?
Seems like something you want to tease...

Arnie's nipples in 3D will be too much for me to handle! Good gawd!

@ManDeth - Only Edward Furlong looks like crap. Linda Hamilton is 60 and looks good, and Arnold at 69 is back in shape.

Saw this film when I was 8 years old and have been mesmerised by T1 and T2. For me and my brothers this film is like Star Wars for us. Will never get sick of watching it and will be first in queue when it comes to London.

I just rewatched this last week. Amazing, it really made an impact on me when i was a kid. They don't make movies like these anymore. No more original ideas. So sad...
