CONFIRMED: Garrett Hedlund to Star in TRON 3

The third Tron movie gained a screenwriter last week, and now it has officially regained its star as Hedlund confirmed during press for On The Road that he'll be back to traverse the grid one more time.

Our friends over at NEXTMOVIE.com have the exclusive word from Garrett Hedlund himself. Hedlund played Sam Flynn in "TRON: Legacy"

"Yeah," Hedlund said when we pressed him for details on his "Tron" participation while doing press in New York ahead of the U.S. release of "On the Road." "Are we gonna break this now?"

"Disney's very excited," he said of the project. "That's about that. You know, yeah, I'm very excited, Disney's very excited."

Jesse Wigutow is in negotiations to write the script, and "TRON: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski is returning to helm the 3rd film.

Rumored but still unofficial is that production may begin in 2014.

I am really excited about this because I enjoyed Tron Legacy. I really hope they find a way to bring Jeff Bridges and Michael Sheen back.

That probably makes it less likely that he will be in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Unless Tron has a significant role this time around, I could care less.

Legacy was a good fun movie, actually a lot like the Avengers. Story wasn't anything special at all, but the effects were spectacular.

Looking forward to 3

Fair enough, the story wasn't incredible, but the visuals were n it was fun n entertaining, thats more than I can say 4 'Prometheus'
I just hope whenever Green Lantern gets the reboot, they take page out of 'Tron' 4 it...

Depending on how uprising ends, I want Elijah Wood to be in it as Beck. It would be awesome to see Tron, Beck, and Sam team up to take down Dillinger Jr. and his program!

Cillian Murphy will be back...for starters he begged Disney for a cameo for the first one...second, when Alan takes over the board in the bonus features he makes a comment like "the Dillinger kid stays, he earned his place." Or something like that...third, this film is going to be awesome. Tron Legacy was great...they're going to probably try and bring back Flynn somehow. Tron is still alive...but Gem (Beau Garrett's character) was killed along with Castor, so maybe they'll do a system reboot or something and bring back some of the dead characters.

Look, I loved Tron Legacy as much as the next guy. As far as I'm concerned that movie was sent down from geek paradise as an exclusive trewasure for the geekly initiated. But on eof the things that was so good about it was that it ended so perfectly. The Grid is down, forever and Olivia Wilde's character is in the real world and will radicalise science/ religion/ etc. And that smile, when she saw the sunrise and was with the man she loved, made it one of the most emotionally satisfying endings to any film ever.
It does not need a sequel.
A sequel would kinda ruin it.

Garrett Hedlund's hair looked so bad in Legacy I kept looking for proof it was a hairpiece.

KamenRider@ I know and there's the cartoon, too, Tron Uprising and all that jazz, but still, that's okay 'cause that's just extending the concept and the mythology, but a film would be like nailed on to the main canon. If it were a good film at all, then I would be compelled to watch it after watching the first two and it would water down the ending of the second one. I dunno. I guess there gonna do it anyway, right? They're not gonna just go "Oh, wait that Duke Acureds guy on CBM.com keeps posting that it's a bad idea, lets cancel the whole project!", so I may as wel just hope for thebest. And more Olivia Wilde.
