C.Thomas Howell Says Amazing Spider-Man Will Be BIGGER And Better

We’re counting down the months until “The Amazing Spider-Man” hits theaters in 2012 and according to actor C. Thomas Howell, the new Spider-Man reboot is going to be "bigger and better"!

When I ran into Howell who plays “Ray” in the new film at GBK’s 2011 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards Gift Lounge, he told me exclusively that this was his first time filming 3D!

“Everything is twice the size of what you’re used to,” Howell said. “One of the exciting things about it was watching the replays with your glasses on and seeing it right after you shoot it in 3D so that was amazing. I was learning a lot, it was my first time.”

When I asked Howell about working with the rest of the incredible cast - Martin Sheen, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone – Howell replied, “I’m a huge fan. It was an amazing experience, a great group. Sony was amazing and I was just proud to be a part of it.”

In regards to the progress of filming, Howell exclusively tells us that production still has another month and a half to go.

“I’m done. They’re going to New York to film the rest.”

The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone swings into theater next Summer of July 2012.

@CorndogBurglar: (awesome name) His stomach area just seem so out of frame from his body. I prefer a skinny spiderman, and he wasn't skinny lol. Especially on the train scene where he was putting all of his strength into stopping the train I just thought his face was fat lol

The Amazing Spiderman
Too old Spiderman: fail
Too old Gwen Stacy: fail
No JJ: fail
A suit pays less tribute to the comics costume than the last series did: fail
Still being done by sony: fail
Not in the MCU: fail

Sorry I just had to say this... lol... above people while the spiderman series isn't probably up to par on to our new silver age of comic book movies, they are still the best of the golden age and I think they deserve some respect! another thing with sony doing this series don't be surprised if this one is even worse than the last... if by some chance this film is good it's still not in the MCU and it should be... I may like the film but it has the same problems as Xmen: First Class it's not made by marvel!

when an actor says something good about movie it can be a good source, HOWEVER when an actor starring in a movie says something good about a movie they are in, it is null

@otherside I'd prefer a Spidey in high school pushing 30 than a Spidey in college pushing 40... I love the 1st 2 Spiderman movies, and the 3rd one was ok too, but I'm looking forward to this reboot a lot (and everyone who keeps pushing for a Spiderman 4... VULTURESS?!? you kidding me?!)
Gwen would need to be around the same age as spidey aswell... agree with the rest, although I'd prefer this one NOT to be in the MCU, mainly cos of the costume, but also cos it allows me to create my own MCU Spidey in my head which I have complete creative control over >:D

This movie shud be under Marvel studios !! I always wanted to see a Sam L. Jackson/Nick Fury cameo like it frequently happened at Utimate Marvel Universe.

I look forward to the intense headache and nausea that Spider-Man in 3D will no doubt cause.

@DarrkEvil: I'm still holding out hope that Sam Jackson will show up at the end like in Iron Man and surprise the hell out of us. Sony has to realize that working with Marvel - the way Universal did with The Incredible Hulk - can only help their franchise make money. The fanboys will squeal with delight (well, I will, anyway) and immediately go buy a ticket for the next showing.

I hope they get his high school stuff right. I like the idea that Peter is kind of torn between Gwen, Mary Jane and Betty Brandt. Too bad no Daily Bugle or JJJ in this. I hope they don't retread villains from before. They have to do Electro, Mysterio, Kraven and maybe get to Goblin in a 3rd film and maybe have small cameo villains like Rhino or Vulture. I don't think every villain needs to have half a film to explain who they are.

The prior series was good. They got more right than wrong. I liked Toby but beyond the first film Dunst just became annoying on she looked worse and worse. I thought Bryce Howad was hot as Gwen but she was just thrown in there along with Venom. Doc Ock was perfect and Sandman was great.

@ThreeBigTacos thanks...

@ACira not trying to get into an argument here but Garfield is already nearly 30 as he's 27 or 28 depending on where his birthday is... think about how old he'll be 2 to 3 movies down the line... sorry but he'll be just like tobey so i don't really see what the age thing has to do with it any more... the only thing that helps him is that he does look like a teen in that photo of him as spiderman, but later movies he won't look so teenish, so oh well with that
i like to make my spiderman in my head too but, marvel has yet to make me unhappy with all their stuff so i'd say let them give it a try... worst thing that can happen is we can rewatch versions we do like or just make another MCU in our head... lol...

long live great spidey movies!

Doubt very much a film with a fraction of the budget has that much chance of being better than the Raimi Spider-Man films.

Say what you like about the Raimi film's cast, and clearly some people do, but the casting director knew what they were doing and they were not afraid to spend money on the right names.

Oh well, opinion is subjective. But I'm not getting my hopes up. Especially with all the emphasis on 3D, effects don't take precedent over plot and story.

Spider-Man 2 is still one of the best comic book movies to date. And us fans have not exactly been blessed with many good films.

the first two spidey movies are amazing, people can try and make out they were rubbish but you only have to look at the scores for SM1 and SM2 on rotten tomato and metacritic to see how highly rated those movies were.

in fact the only two CBM I rate more higly than SM1/SM2 is TDK, and that's it.
CapFan79
CapFan79 - 4/6/2011, 5:13 PM
@SoulAllFlush You clearly know nothing about movies. The casting director does not pay an actors salary. The producers & studio negotiate that. This reboot has the same producers as the past 3 films: Ziskin, Arad and Curtis. It's budget is about the same as Spider-Man 3 too. I think they even have the same costume designer. They just decided to do something different.

As good as the series was, Raimi backed it in a corner with "3". He is the one who wrote "3" and made a mess. They never explored maybe having Peter involved with Betty, and Gwen was just thrown in so the plot was locked into MJ and her problems and sort of got Peter stuck at the end. I think a 4th film would've been more of MJ being a sad attention whore. I hope this new series keeps Peter's love interests open and complicated so it's not just one chick becoming a nag like before.

Also hoping the new film series will get to Black Cat too!

Justice - 4/6/2011, 6:12 PM
Ha Black Cat" don't make me laugh. You guys no somehwere down-the-line, that shits going to get 'f up, so bad. We all know why they're doing, so I'll spare the bullshit and get to the point and the point is: Why start-over and why start over now, When its to early?

Come on I mean seriously, you fanboys are jizzing in your pants, just so you could see what was missed about in the 1st movie, but at the same time, your still hatting the "Costume", when Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, looked real. And besides what kind of "18-year-old" is going to be able to make a costume like they are doing now? Does he have a job yet? There's no Daily Bugle, so what's he going to do for cash? And the "Webshotter" they weren't apart of him in the comics, they were made! I can tell what Sam Raimi did for his "Spider-Man Movie's" and that was, "To make Spider-Man feel real"! Because that's how Stan Lee made him. And as back to the costume, again it looks bad, you guys were making "Gay Jokes" about it.

Now if looks towards the villian: The Lizard! Well they're just adding stuff from: "Spider-Man 3 The Video Game, 90's Spider-Man TV Show and Spetaculer Spider-Man TV Show" and in that show Parker got bit at 17, as he got bit by a spider at age 18 in: The Amazing-Spider-Man. What I think they or hell even someone should do! Is focus on the other 3 Universes of the Web-Head. Such as for instance: Spider-Man Noir-1930's. Imagine it: Your sitting in the theater and the movie is real dark, and all you see is flashes of light and shadows move over the screen. Then this "shadowed-figure" swoops through and then, down from a building. And your thinking, "What was that I just saw? Did that thing have some-kind-of-meachnical-wings? Did it? Is it even alive?" Well you get the point and then so much more about that series that is diffrent from the Amazing Spider-Man comics. What about a "Spider-Man Movie" that takes place in the future? Ha about that? Cool special effects. And as far as Ultimate Spider-Man goes, it work DONE Correctly though. Alright respond if any questions. To find me go to: Youtube.com/Justice12284" for any furthur details or questions for the ideas I have and that I'm willing to share.

to everyone who comments on Tobey being too old when he played spider-man... he was only 25 when Spider-man 1 was made... Andrew is already 27 so hes 2 years older than tobey was when he starred in the first movie... his age wasnt the problem... i think andrew garfield will do great in the role, but i dont think tobey was nearly as bad as some people have said... lets not put so much hate on him

@CapFan79 Well aware the casting directors don't pay the actors. From what I've heard and read Amazing Spider-Man has a budget of about 80million.The first Raimi Spider-Man had a budget of over $130million and Spider-Man 3 was nearly double that.
CapFan79
CapFan79 - 4/7/2011, 12:58 PM
@SoulAllFlush "Amazing Spider-Man" has a budget of close to $150 mil from what I heard, which is on par with Iron Man, Cap & Thor. They're saving money by filming a larger portion in LA (where Columbia is located) instead of it all being on location in NY. As you can see from prior set vids there's a lot more practical stunts than before so the CGI costs should be more minimal, but the quality should be better. I think a lot of the cost cutting has been actors and CGI but they aren't getting bad ones. As you can see from prior set vids there's a lot more practical stunts than before so the CGI costs should be more minimal, but the quality should be better. You can guarantee they'll spend more if the reboot does as well as the prior series. I think they're taking a bigger chance by trying to do better justice to Spidey.

Spider-Man 3 was $250 mil because of so many FX with Sand Man, Venom and Goblin Jr. Obviously more FX and money didn't make it better. The budget supports the story.
