Tom Holland's Spider-Man will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War this May but that's not the only wall-crawler who will be swinging his way on to the big screen this year. Miles Morales is set to get the spotlight in Into the Spider-Verse, a trippy looking animated offering which is set to compete with the likes of Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns this coming December.

The Sony Pictures movie has assembled an impressive cast, with perhaps the most exciting addition being Ray Donovan star Liev Schreiber. In a new interview, the actor refused to reveal who he's playing but did shed some light on what appealed to him about the project and why we should be excited.

"It was actually the animation team. The guys who are working on it, I saw their work and said, “Wow! These guys are special.” And it is. It’s going to be pretty special, from what I’ve seen so far. And I haven’t seen much, but it’s pretty special. They’re super-talented. … That’s what I love about it. But it also is anamorphic … ohh I don’t know if I should have said that. [laughs] If you know something about film, that’s an amazing thing for an animated film to do that well. Anamorphic is the stretched-out format and it really is a much broader, bigger canvas, which is unusual for animation because you’re generally trying to focus the action. These guys have decided to go anamorphic with it and it’s stunning. If you’ve seen that trailer, you already get a sense of what it is."

Despite the fact it's not being produced by Marvel Studios, Into the Spider-Verse really does look like it has the potential to be something special and it could launch a whole new franchise for Sony Pictures.

There are, of course, many fans who would love to see Miles Morales in a live-action setting and while that's definitely possible, it appears as if he's staying in the animated realm for the time being. Do Schreiber's comments get you more excited for the movie? Let us know your thoughts down below.
