Many Things Missing From The Amazing Spider-Man Final Cut

Many Things Missing From The Amazing Spider-Man Final Cut

Taking a look back, the final cut of The Amazing Spider-Man was missing plenty of footage from TV spots and clips, probably more than you think and I cover them in this article.

Plenty of people are curious as to why two plot lines came to a mysterious closure: Uncle Ben's killer still roaming the streets and the disappearance of Dr. Ratha. Of course the stories and said to be continued in the sequel, but we were promised the untold story for this movie, not the sequel, but these are not my main concern with the final cut. Without going into a full review, I'll just say that The Amazing Spider-Man was a spectacular movie, a 8.5/10 to me, but I was highly disappointed in the final cut of the movie. Here's why:

What happened to all of these scenes? This would have been the part where
Connors said "if you want the truth about your parents Peter, come and get it.". Spider-Man and The Lizard would have undoubtedly fought at this part, but for some reason it was cut, This seems like a HUGE scene to cut out. Perhaps this scene was the death of Dr. Ratha and it was decided to keep him alive so they had no choice but to cut the scene out, although it would have had to change the story moderately.

Remember this from the trailer? Well it was replaced with Peter surprising Connors with the decay rate algorithm on a small scrapbook rather than a huge blackboard. My guess is that the scene contained too much dialogue about Peter's parents that SONY probably decided to save for the sequel(s). Dr. Ratha also whispered to Peter "Do you think what happened to you, Peter, was an accident?" and maybe that somehow tied into the scene as well.

One scene that wasn't in the movie was when Peter and Lizard were fighting at school and Peter yells "Dr. Connors, this is not you, stop it, stop it right now."Pointing out this scene as being absent may seem like I'm nitpicking, but I felt this scene displayed the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man as a more assertive, tougher version of the Tobey Macguire Spider-Man.

Although it was mentioned in the movie, the scene with the intimidating doorman was cut out.

One of the most astonishing parts of the movie cut out was Connors son. His son was cast for the movie, and "the villains wife" was cast as well, and most people speculated that it would be Dr. Ratha's wife, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Connor's. How could they cut out every clip of his family and not even mention them?

For some different views on the movie's missing scenes you can click on the link. Again, I very much enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man, but i feel that if it was more organized, it would be a 10/10 and in my personal opinion would have been my all time favorite super hero movie rather than my second. I am very surprised that the movie was as enjoyable as it was with all of these scenes cut out and the story going through as many major changes as it seemed to go through. Leave your thoughts in the comments below, for I would love to know what you guys think!

I know people are saying the missing message from Uncle Ben "with great power..." I agree.... but, to me, also missing from the movie is showing him really developing his spider skills. He goes from knowing he has some, to skateboarding stunts in a warehouse. Not climbing walls, or test swings with the webs. Just being a good boarder. It seemed to jump over that part. It never showed him afraid of jumping off a building, etc...

i loved the skillful special effects. But something just wasn't complete.

And my biggest complaint, when Parker is Spiderman, he is the funniest hero alive. His mouth doesn't stop. Bendis (with his interaction with Luke Cage DID capture alot of that.). Growing up, I loved reading this comic, mainly to get my monthly fill of Peter's life and his adventures, but I broke out laughing at his quips and asides that just were far and above anything anyone else had to offer. They need to hire a comedy writer JUST for the fight scenes!!! If you truly want to capture Spiderman onscreen, it's not just the swinging, it's his brash, rat tat tat unstopable mouth too.

I think your right about avoiding the death if dr ratha, maybe thinking it would be a death that no one would care about, also having an indian actor always leads to higher indian box office. Also they wanted to keep his past more mysterious, i think they already know what all this secrets are, so they decided it would work better in the sequel longed out a little more, maybe because theirs no all that much to the secret.

I guess they cut bits from the school like the lizard tonguing the girls face and bits with oeter because it felt overly long or dialogue heavy maybe, which makes sense, thought that line is great.

Thatdoorman scene really wasnt great anyway, they should of had someone as a cameo as the doorman, like i mean that scene would be a total bruce campbell role in the raimi films, they couldve added someone new as a little cameo.

Heres a bit about connors family which i know couldve made him more emotionally relatable losing his mind to his family, but honestly im guessing they didnt have enough development on the family so on screen they wouldve seemed more like an add on instead of emotional baggage for dr connors. Also it wouldve taken away from something i thought worked well, whcih was the idea that connors had lived for his work, so he was already a little insane about getting his limb back, but also the idea that he was actually a well known friend of peters parents but also his other family, so obviously to connors peters parents were like his family, so the idea that connors was all alone really added something to the character, the idea he was angry at the parents for leaving him not just with secrets and questions but without anyone left close to him, he was mad and lonely it kinda helps build the idea if why he goes so off the rails, and how he takes his anger out on peter for many reasons. Also why he believes he has to create this new species all alone in the sewer assuming no others will accept him. I think no literal family worked on the big screen.

@crowpirate the scenes in the warehouse iinda set up the idea thats he tests ideas of moving around and swinging, also when hes after all those crooks he thinks are his uncles killer at first he wasnt really prepared just new he was strong and could grip, so he kinda had to jump headfirst into the whole thing, while getting away from them. I think their was no need to do a whole montage of what spidey learns to do completely, we got bits and the audience already know this stuff, i thought it was more realistic that his skills and courage came from what he already does and just happens in the moment. Not saying its perfect but it worked.

The great power bit was done, they just had him talk of responsibilty, but i think with the dialogue in this movie, the major thing for them was having dialogue people would actually say and not just spouted lines that sounded unnatural, great power...great responsibilty line, heard it and the way they did it gave the idea without the cheesey line. I thought it worked well. Some CBMs really kinda sound weird with their dialogue ripped straight from comics, that just dont make sense in modern tense.

About spiderman spouting lnes, theirs one thing that works on screen but only to a certain level, this is dr connors someone he's emotionally invested in, its not realistic and it would get worn ut after a while if spidey was continually spouting random lines at him, it wouldnt make sense. Sure if youve got a random villian then fine spout away, mess with him make it funny as hell, but it all depends on whether it makes sense with the timing and the villian in this film, the amount of jokes he spouted made sense. Also it really would start to take away any edge if he non stop spouted lines, it would become unfunny on the big screen if he continually did it all the time to every guy. In the comics it was still in moderation.

i was gutted that j.jonah jameson & the daily bugle didn't make the movie.

i see a directors cut coming to blu-ray(fingers crossed)

@marvel72 j. Jonah was never planned for this movie, him, harry and mj i think were pretty much removed to lessen comparisions with the raimi trilogy, im sure he'll likely turn up in the sequel as capatain stacy kinda filled his role in this film as the spidey hater. Harry too. I doubt mj till the third part tho.

Btw that line, "dr connors, stop this, stop this right now" is actually from the finale of the movie not the school fight.

@SebHope

I understand your points.

I just liked in the other trilogy (and I hate to compare, which I am not really..) Toby slamming against the wall in his first testing of the swing. It just seemed like this Spidy had way too much confidence on his first times out, is all. I am not saying I didn't like the movie... I did! But Peter is a geek (so am I), and uncomfortible in his own skin for a long time, even with the "power". In this version, he gained too much confidence too fast. But, It was okay.

I know.. I just loved that line, for it seems like it always has been Peter's mantra, so to speak. heh.

and the jokes, I know also. But, Marvel, more than other comic companies, doesn't mind humor. (Look at the Avengers movie). And Spiderman (and Deadpool) are the kings of the oneliners. I guess I just relish reading their books just for that fact alone. Been a spidy fan since I was 5 years old. And that humor was what pulled me in and kept me reading. 25 years and counting. ^_^

but I loved all the movies so far.

Yeah, they cut a lot out. I think I would have rated it higher if they had of left some stuff in there. Like Connors wife and kid.

So much was cut out its not even funny.
You can staight out tell..why even release those clips online!?lol
Poor editing but good movie though. Thats a testament to webb as a director.
Too much studio interference though, you can tell.

Instead of pushing their storytelling boundaries, they rather save sh!t for the sequel! Smh!

a football cannot bend a field goal post. The very next shot after that I saw I book entitled "PHYSICS" with all caps. Really, dood? And why did Peter Pecker take the frozen mac and cheese?

Really?! They cut out Connor's family? That is pretty [frick]ing lame. When I think of all the Lizard stories in the comics they're all about his wife or son to some dgree. The Lizard is a very family-based villian and this is a very family-based movie, so this is a pretty stupid move.
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 7/6/2012, 12:24 PM
When I say a "family-based" movie, I mean that it is centered around Parker's family and the stacy's are in there and such, not that it's a family film, btw.
MediaMan
MediaMan - 7/6/2012, 2:22 PM
I can see why the family stuff was cut (for time), but in addition to basically being an innocent scientist whose well-intentioned experiment went wrong, the family was really why the Lizard was such a tragic character in the comics- especially his son. That really humanized him. That element was missing from the movie, unfortunately.

Whatever...still kicked ass

It is obvious the cut was trimmed to not give too much away for the sequel

But i do wish they would of left the This isn't you Connors part in ...as well as the Doorman scene...owell will be glad to get a copy at Walmart midnight whenever this gets released on Blu Ray in i would guess Sept

Perhaps I've missed something, but when Spiderman is fighting the Lizard in the school, he does actually say the "This isn't you..." line. I took not of it when it was verbally spoken.
EarOne
EarOne - 7/7/2012, 6:58 AM
i too think they shoulda kept connors having a family for the drama. BUT, i guess it'd make his character too much like an amalgam of Doc Ock and Sandman.

but, yeah..i do enjoy the movie, overall..BUT, it feels like it's missing a lot of things. NOT as a complete and satisfying as Raimi's original (even as flawed as it was).

Cutting the stuff about Peter having been an experiment by his dad was a good thing, it would/will kill the story.

Uncle bens murderer will become a villain in the sequel, fingers crossed it's mysterio! ^_^ This movie did hae flaws, but the fact that the lizard might just be one of the only villains to not die at the end of a film, sinister six ftw!
