During a web cast, Bob Iger, the president of the Walt Disney Company, discussed a little about the company's current relationship with Marvel Comics, purchased by Disney in August last year and finalized back in December. Everybody knows that for the "short term," Disney cannot add Marvel's 5,000 or so characters to their theme parks because of the deal that Marvel made with Universal Studios Florida's Islands of Adventure. But here's one of the more interesting things mentioned in the article:
"Before Disney bought Marvel, Disney and Universal Parks and Resorts struck a deal that restricts Marvel characters to Universal's properties on the East Coast and in Japan, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Universal has a Marvel Super Island in its Islands of Adventure theme park in Florida. California parks reportedly are exempt from the agreement.
Iger said that Disney is looking at putting Marvel merchandise at theme parks."
Well, Disney's already started to sell Marvel merchandise a little bit, as they've added Iron Man merchandise to their California Adventure to tie into the hero's currently in theater sequel. Here's hoping we get to see more of Marvel at Disney's theme parks sooner rather than later. Or at least we can see some more Marvel stuff at Disney in California.
