RUMOUR: Is ENDER'S GAME Actor A Candidate For MCU's Spider Man?

17-Year Old English actor Asa Butterfield is reportedly on Marvel's list of potential candidates for the part of Spider-Man. Hit the jump for more details!

First it was apparently 16-year old Mateus Ward who Marvel were considering for the role of Peter Parker, A.K.A, Spider-Man. Now, this certainly should be taken with a grain of salt, but Latino Review has just reported that Hugo actor Asa Butterfield may be on the 'list' of candidates as well. Butterfield himself has expressed an interest in playing Spidey on Reddit , so perhaps it could happen after all? This would also reaffirm that Marvel is looking to cast a relatively young actor for the long haul. If one thing's for sure, as production for Captain America: Civil War ramps up, it won't be long until we find out more about who'll be playing the famous web-slinger.

He's a good actor, he's the right age, he kinda looks like how I would imagine a high school Peter Parker, why not?

I prefer someone who actually looks like they are a high schooler as opposed to someone who is "the right age."

This is just a rumor, I know, but all the rumors have been about a 14 year old Peter Parker and I am utterly sick of Peter the high school student. I just want something different, how hard can that be???

@Chcl

Until about the 70's-80's, Peter wasn't meant to be a handsome guy. He was the dorky guy meant to sit in the back corner of class. When he grew up he was depicted as more handsome, and nowadays even more so. While I liked Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, I hated his Peter Parker (I blame that more on the script though.) He was too cool, and too Abercrombie model-looking. See, I feel the Raimi films captured a perfect Parker essence. Tobey MaGuire isn't the best looking guy, but his Peter was really dorky. When he gets bit and when he sees how his body transformed, things like that captured Peter. He was the bookworm, as described in his first comic appearance. The Rainsdrops Falling On My Head scene in Spider-Man, call it cheesy and campy (it is,) but that's Peter. And Spider-Man should have some level of cheese and camp anyway.

But I digress. My point is, the actor can be "ugly" or whatever, in my opinion Peter should be an average looking everyman that blends right in with crowds. More so when he is in his teenage years, if this really is what they're going for.

@MarkyMarkRises
Totally agreed. I'd rather an approach similar to the 90's cartoon. Have him become Spider-Man in his college years. That way we get an actual Spider-MAN, as he has been for the past 30+ years, and you can still get a coming of age story without having to go over the same exact territory. I've read Ultimate Spider-Man, I've seen The Amazing Spider-Man films, the last couple of cartoons were set in high school….I'm really tired of high school Peter and the same exact story being recycled.

I thought it was going to say the director. He did a great job on the Ender's Game movie. As for if this guy can pull off Peter, yes I think he could, but I personally want an older Peter Parker. One that is already married and working at the Daily Bugle. I don't want to see him back in high school again.

I think Marvel is feeling the pressure to have a young actor in their universe. Fox is owning in this area. Whatever you feelings about FF. The cast are quality. And look at all the new Xmen. Both Disney and Sony want a player In the game.

Guys, guys... IF Peter isn't in high shcool here, then how the hell are you gonna explain his absence during past events in MCU
They probably wanna bring a Spidey who's got his powers after or during the events in Age of Ultron.

Also, we don't have any teenager superhero on screen, everyone is over 30s
