Across the course of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell made three cameo appearances. We saw him introducing Spider-Man to the world during his pro wrestling debut, pestering Peter Parker as a difficult theatre usher, and later as a rather over-the-top waiter.
Storyboards from Spider-Man 4 have shown the web-slinger marching Mysterio into the police station, leaving many to speculate that Campbell was going to take on the role. Quentin Beck was essentially going to be used as a punchline, but it still could have been a fun payoff for the actor.
Unfortunately, during a recent interview with Game Informer, Campbell shot down the theories once and for all. "If somebody's wet dream came true...no, that's all fan sh*t," he stated. "In every way imaginable, it doesn't matter. Look, this was all bullsh*t. Somebody saw a storyboard that kinda looked like me as he turned around. It's like the Doctor Strange movie, 'Is he in it? Is he not?'"
That's a slightly harsher response to the question than we expected, but at least it clears things up. We don't even know whether that scene with Beck would have made it into the final cut of Spider-Man 4, but the villain would later make his live-action debut in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. Played by Jake Gyllenhaal, Beck was an ex-Stark Industries employee who ruined Peter's life.
As for Campbell, rumours continue to persist that he will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though many believe he's been cut to make way for higher-profile cameos.
