It's been a little over a year since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released, but there's still no official word on Spider-Man 4. While rumours swirled earlier this year that the movie will be released in Summer 2024, neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures have offered any sort of comment.
Promoting the threequel last December (and Uncharted a few months later), Tom Holland repeatedly said his time as Spider-Man might be at an end, though the assumption was the actor might be publicly negotiating for a massive new deal. If so, it worked, because we've since heard rumblings the actor will indeed return for a new trilogy along with more MCU cameos.
Regardless, The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman, and asked if Spider-Man 4 is indeed planned at the studio.
"You bet," he responded before adding, "When you can expect it, I don’t know. Serve no wine before it’s time."
The news that Marvel Studios would have no involvement with the then-untitled Spider-Man: No Way Home was met with a very vocal backlash, and that helped make it clear to Sony that fans want the web-spinner to remain in the MCU.
With that in mind, we're sure a new series of movies is being planned, though whether those will end with Holland's Peter Parker passing the mantle to a live-action Miles Morales remains to be seen. That's something the actor has suggested he would like to be part of, and there's been speculation that the teenager might live in the same apartment building as Spidey in the next movie.
These comments are definitely welcomed, anyway, even if they're a little vague. Hopefully, some official word will drop in early 2023 as cameras will need to start rolling sooner rather than later if we really are getting Spider-Man 4 in 2024.
Stay tuned for updates.
