On the eve of the great showdown between Earth’s Mightiest and Thanos, video game developer Insomniac Games has revealed the second costume in the Spidey Suit pack as part of the pre-order bonuses for
Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 4. It’s none other than the Iron Spider, inspired by the suit Peter Parker wears in
Avengers: Infinity War.
“Getting the opportunity to work with Marvel Games and Marvel Studios on this was another dream come true on this project,” said Insomniac Games community manager James Stevenson.
“Seeing Spider-Man on the big screen in the MCU with his Iron Spider suit is something we are really excited about, and we knew Spider-Man fans around the world would want the chance to unlock our version of the Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War inspired Iron Spider suit in-game. We were given access to the actual CG asset from the upcoming film (in theaters on April 27th!!) to ensure that it was as true to the suit you’ll see at the cinema as possible.”
While we’ll have to wait until
Avengers: Infinity War to see the Iron Spider suit in full-blown action, a trailer showcases it in
Marvel’s Spider-Man.
As previously revealed,
Marvel’s Spider-Man will feature a variety of suits to choose from from all across the character’s lore, including some completely original suits created by Insomniac. Each suit will feature a special power that you can use in-game. Insomniac isn’t quite ready to detail these powers yet, but did
provide a hint.
“The Spider-Punk suit lets you rock out with a guitar, doing an AoE attack that’ll knock enemies off their feet. And the Iron Spider has a suit power that… well, you’ll know it when you see it happen in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War,” teased Stevenson.
Trailers for
Avengers: Infinity War have kept the Iron Spider suit details a mystery, but
collectible figurines have
teased additional appendages that pop out. In the comics, these extra arms were capable of shooting blasts of energy, but it’s more likely these will be used in both the movie and game to assist in hand-to-hand combat and climbing over obstacles. We’ll find out soon enough when
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters tomorrow. Meanwhile,
Marvel’s Spider-Man swings onto PlayStation 4 September 7, 2018.
