TASM 2: What We Know & What I Think Will Happen

Let's take a look at everything we know about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and what I think will happen.

The recent release of the first trailer for May 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" brought along many questions, theories, & undeniable praise. Many villains look to be making appearances this time around along with bigger fights and greater threats! But what do we know about this movie so far? What do we think will happen? Where will this lead?

First, let's look at where the The Amazing Spider-Man movie left us.
Spider-Man has a huge televised fight with the Lizard on top of Oscorp tower. There is no doubt that fight caused millions of dollar in damage to Oscorps tower leaving Norman Osborn and the rest of the companies upper rankings pretty furious with this new masked vigilante. Now, am I the only one who found Oscorp never questioning Peter breaking in to one of their labs or even mentioning it again through out the first movie a big plot hole?

I will get back to that later on.

After the battle at Oscorp tower, Peter promises Captain Stacy that he will leave Gwen out of his life to keep her away from danger. With this being the Captains last dying wish... Peter immediately breaks that promise and I assume he believes he can protect her from danger... We will touch on this soon enough.

We also understand that Richard Parker was a brilliant scientist and he was on to something bigger than he could handle before his disappearance. In the after credits scene this mystery man with the top hat ask Curt Connors if he "told the boy the truth about his father" leaving a question to be answered in the sequel.

With all of that in mind let's get to it.

We already know that in this movie Electro will be the main antagonist. It's been said that in the beginning of the film he is one of Spideys biggest fans but goes through a complete (and obvious) change making him hate Spider-Man and everything he stands for. In the trailer we can hear him saying something along the lines of "the world will soon know what it is to be without power, mercy, & Spider-Man."
But what might make Max Dillon completely hate his role model? Usually in a movie where a fan does a one-eighty like this the hero does something that scars him for life making him spend years planning revenge. This movie will surely take place over a shorter time span like most CBMs and it's predecessor. So, what gives Max?

Take a look at that chip on his head. Could that very well be a product of Oscorp? Originally, Max Dillon was struck by lightning which led to his powers. But this in a new age and origin stories are being completely altered. I think it is safe to say Max Dillon didn't do this to himself. I believe he supported Spider-Man a little too much maybe irking his bosses at Oscorp. Originally, Max might have been doing research into a new way for humans to harness electrical power and use it as a weapon. One of Osborns men, presumably the man in the top hat, convinces (forces) Max to do an experiment on himself making him Electro. As for his attitude, it probably comes right along with that chip.

Moving on.

Now, Aleksei Sytsevich was apart of a scientific experiment in the the comics but as I said before, the comic origins are irrelevant for villains now. It seems to be that he is a mob member of sorts who must have a grudge for Spider-Man. Oscorp knowing of this hatred comes after Aleksei offering him a way to take down Spider-Man and he accepts. Him being one of Oscorps weapons is really the only explanation. That suit is state of the art. Nothing you can buy on the Black Market.
Rhino will probably be the battle at the start of the movie. Spider-Man will defeat him and then he will be taken to prison where he will stay for a short while until he is broken out by a group of villains (Sinister Six of course) or the men who gave him the suit.

Both of these villains will play a major role in the future of the Spider-Man films but which character will be the mastermind? Who is at the head of this?

For now, the man in the top hat will be referred to as "Top Hat."
Top Hat seems to be the bed ridden Norman Osborn's messenger boy. There's been rumors that he could be a bigger force than Osborn but with Oscorp said to be the root of all evil within this universe it is safe to say that Top Hat is an errand boy. He probably isn't pulling the strings although if Norman is to die, which I doubt will happen, he could take over the mantle if Harry doesn't. But let's not think about that.
Norman Osborn is near death and he clearly wants to to finish something he started. However, in his state, he can't. Which explains Rhino's creation and the transformation Max Dillon goes through. But what about this Goblin we have seen?

With what seems to be the return of Harry Osborn rather than the introducing of we can see that he and Peter are indeed friends. They pal around in the movie as we have seen in set pictures and the trailer. These guys are friends. There's a part in the trailer where Harry informs Peter that Oscorp has been watching him.

This is where the beginning of my article starts to come full circle. Why would Oscorp be watching a random teenager? Because he isn't a random teenager. He is the son of Richard Parker. Someone it is safe to say that Oscorp "sent on a vacation to Belize." Does anyone seriously think that Oscorp didn't notice a break in? All of their spiders running around crazy? Camera footage? Where was the security when Peter went in?
It wouldn't take much for a power house company like Oscorp to do a facial recognition scan on an intruder. They quickly learned who it was who broke in and began keeping tabs on him. He seems to be trouble and with his dad being Richard Parker they won't be taking chances.
Once the battle takes place on top of the tower Oscorp will have gotten a pretty great idea of who Spider-Man really is. They put the pieces together really quick and now they are looking at their options for disposing of him.

In some way, Norman sees Peter as a major threat to his future plans. Plans that involve "changing the world." He informs his son of his goals and in some way the benefits of the plan must out weigh Harry and Peters relationship. Harry is convinced Peter needs to be eliminated but knows he can't possibly do it and his fathers other attempts have seemingly failed. So what does he do? He volunteers to take part in something that will change him forever but make him more powerful than he could ever have imagined...

This transformation will most likely take place in the third act of the film along with a small fight. This will be used to set up the third installment within the franchise.

While we have the topic of the third installment fresh in our minds let's talk about this...

YES! That is clearly Vultures wings and Doc Ocs notorious mechanical arms!
It is safe for us to say that the Sinister Six is going to be the threat within TASM3(2016) or better yet TASM4 (2018). If the Sinister Six isn't rushed it would be a great plot for the fourth (and final?) film. TASM3 could very well introduce Doc Oc and Vulture then have them team up with Electro and the Goblin to bust Rhino out of maximum security. Somewhere within the third and fourth film the sixth member could be introduced leaving us with the full group!

If you know anything about movies and story telling you understand how foreshadowing works. When Peter broke his promise to Captain Stacy that was the writers way of sealing her fate. Set photos made it to the internet awhile back showing Gwen wearing the same outfit as when she died in the comics. With the casting of Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane it is a safe bet that Gwen would kick the bucket in this film. Now Mary Janes scene are not going to be put into this movie after all and she will make her appearance in the third installment taking the role of Peters love interest. I can't remember who said it, it might have been Emma Stone herself, but it was something along the lines of "we didn't want Mary Jane being introduced so quick after the loss of Gwen." I have been searching for the interview but I can't find it. If you know what I am talking about please leave it down below! Anyways, whoever said that really spoiled that part of the movie but it was sort of obvious to begin with!

Back to Richard Parker. In the trailer we see Peter go in to an abandoned part of the subway system in New York. There he discovers a secret lab that was once his fathers. We hear a voice over where Richard says "I have discovered what Oscorp was going to use my research for. I have a responsibility to protect the world from what I know they're capable of.
Whatever this research is it is surely apart of Norman Osborns master plan. Richard Parker is more than likely dead. He knew he was dying though so he left behind the tools and information someone (Peter) would need to stop this evil corporation. This is what will sort of help guide Peter through the future installments. I'd like to think of it as a extremely toned down version of the Jor-El/Kal-El relationship in Man of Steel. Too much? I'm just guessing here.

I hope this gave at least one person a better understanding of what is going on in this movie. This of course is all just speculation.
This was my first article on here so don't rip in to me too much please!

Also, I thought this looked strikingly familiar to the sky in Iron Man 3 when Tony's house was attacked and the crashing plane was familiar too. I'm not suggesting a connection but I thought it was cool.

I actually think they want to do Sinister Six for TASM3, specifically because Giamatti said he was only aware and signed on for one more. I think they'll push forward with Venom, and have that out before 2017, then have Spiderman and Venom team up to fight Carnage or something along those lines in TASM4

@HydroMan

Are you saying Harry kills Gwen or causes her death?

This doesn't make sense, I always thought of Harry as more friend of Peter with the chance of redemption in spite of his time being villainous. Harry killing Gwen would seal his fate as Peter's most hated enemy. No I think this title belongs to Norman, I guarantee he will be involved in Gwen's death. I think Mary Jane should be around to help Peter through that great loss.

@Starkasm

Right before that it clearly shows 7 chambers then they zoom in and 2-6 open. Based on what your saying it's the Sinister 5 out of 7. Might have to do with it, but I doubt it.

@VirileMan I didn't ever see the panel. I should have looked into it. Sorry for that.
Is that really what they're going with? All of the videos look like he is tied up being made in to something different.

Great theory and very good points on the speculation of TASM 2. I just think Norman Osborn is not the only person behind setting up all these villains. I just think that Norman is using Harry to give or enhanced Electro's abilities. Max's motivation is wanting to gain power and wanting to be the center of attention. I think Harry uses Max's motivations and persuades him to attack Spiderman.

Harry gives Electro and Rhino the tools and the paraphernalia to attack Spider-man.
