Sam Elliot And John Slattery In The Running For J Jonah Jameson In Spider-Man

Sam Elliot And John Slattery In The Running For J Jonah Jameson In Spider-Man

Apparently those 2 actors are among a group that have met with Marc Webb to play the grizzled, grouchy editor of The Daily Bugle..

As shooting day approaches, Marc Webb and Francine Mailer are working around the clock to fill the remaining roles in Webb's upcoming Spider-Man reboot. We have our Peter Parker(Andrew Garfield), our Gwen Stacy(Emma Stone), and our villain in the form of the Lizard(Rhys Ifans).

The last major role to fill is apparently J Jonah Jameson. WhatsPlaying report that Webb has met with up to a dozen actors for the part. Two names they know are Sam Elliot(Ghost Rider, Hulk) and John Slattery(Mad Men, Iron Man 2). Both have CBM experience and would seem like good fits for the part. Although I think many fans will find JK Simmons' portrayal of Jameson in Sam Raimi's previous movies hard to beat.

Apparently Webb will be looking to cast the role, as well as other as yet unrevealed ones over the next few weeks.

physically I see Sam Elliot pulling it off, but hes a slow talker... all I can think of is The narraration to The Big Lebowski or from Ghost Rider. I havent seen him yell alot either

Neither of them would be who I'd like to see in the role, although I think I'd probably prefer Slattery if I had to choose because I'm not a fan of Elliot's. James Remar would be better than both of them though IMO...

Elliot looks the part but man, his voice doesn't sound right for it. Simmons was fantastic as JJJ.

JK Simmons is J. Jonah Jameson and Tobey Macguire is Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst is not MJ.
And once again here it is: Frick this reboot.

@Whiteharted Well, if you believe in the whole "James Bond is a codename" theory, one could argue that it may not have been a true reboot, but more along the lines of Star Trek where it created a new universe but still acknowledged the old series.

I wish they wouldn't reboot it, but maybe it can't be helped. (I'm still gonna try to stop it with my own Spidey 4 script)

I agree, keep JK as JJJ. He was, and is, perfect.

Besides, both guys have had Marvel roles already. (Isn't this like, Sam Elliot's 3rd Marvel character?)

Thats the movie industry for ya.....instead of keeping the original cast and continuing the current storyline,(albeit, make the stories darker) lets throw money away on a way too early "reboot", recast everyone and pick up where we left off? Do I really need to see Peter get bit again? NOOO!! But what I do need is an extremely stomach aching performance when it comes to JJJ. The fact is, J.K. Simmons was the perfect balancing act to the always emotionally confused paring of McGuire and Dunst.

What they should do is forget all this reptillian BS and bring in Electro. Have him kill off MJ, Peter/Spiderman goes flippin berserk(and I mean B!-SERK), Gwen Stacey steps in as the new girlfriend whose on the outside looking in trying to become a part of Parkers life, constantly and clumsily getting in the way when he's Spiderman, which causes him to reveal himself, kicking her to the curb, thus bringing about Black Cat for spidey 5. All the while J.K. Simmons is keeping the fans rolling in the seats with his continued hatred for the friendly neighborhood webslinger..........

BTW...the lizard crap is already being done with "V". Do we need to have two CBM's running down the same road as primetime television? I think not. It's gonna look stupid. You might as well bring in Matthew Broderick and cgi Marlon Brando (again) and lets film a sequel to "The Freshman" at the same time.

JK cannot be beat, anyone else is going to be compared to easily one of the best CBM Castings and performances with respect to the source character. Everyone would be fine with JK because we all know you can't beat his JJ...it was dead on...not a single criticism. It was like the Comic Character leapt off the page of the comic itself.

there is no way they could keep the same cast,
for one tobey mugire was a crap spider-man, he just wasnt funny enough, and kirsten dunst wasnt good looking enough to be a MJ, in all honesty i thought topher grace( a terrible excuse for eddie brock/venom ) would have been far better.
garfield looks better for the role he is leaner and just plain old looks like peter parker more than tobey,
and as for JJJ it was one of those awe insipring casting decsions, its a pity they destroyed those movies.
THE REBOOT IS GOING TO BE GOOD, better than number 2 hmmmm but a vast improvement on 3, i will put money on that (albeit 3 quid.....still)

I love Sam Elliot, but damn, hasn't he done enough comic book movies? And John Slattery already did "Iron Man 2". How about Richard Dean Anderson. His personality circa "Stargate SG-1" has all the necessary blueprints for J. Jonah Jameson.
