Should they recycle or discard Sam Raimi's spider suit

What's your opinion: should they keep the original cinema Spider suit?

Okay, so now that we know who will play Spider-Man, I was thinking 'what about the costume?' Honestly, I like Raimi's suit, but I always thought Peter made his own suit. Therefore, I always had trouble believing Peter designed it and made it without help. I would like to (also) see the classic web shooters, and have them be visible within the suit.

I also prefer how 'Ultimate' portrays Peter as the average skinny teenager. Feel free to leave a picture of concept art or just comment as usual.

Last thing: I don't like the idea of the reboot, but what are we going to do? I pray it will be frickin' awesome. It could always be worse with Mark Steven Johnson writing and directing a la "Daredevil," "Elektra," and "Ghost Rider."

I kinda want a new suit, just to distinguish this more from the Raimi films, I wanted the classic suit in the first film because well it was his suit but that it's been done I want to see something new,

Maybe Iron Spider without the iron.

the first movie almost went with Alex Ross designs so why not try it now.

but if they want to go classic but still give it change they could go with Ben Reilly's costume, I always liked his suit.

but classic is still cool with me, whatever they do should be fine.

I like the idea of having the indicator on the suit for web shooters, but they could just go with bracelets

Sooooooo the idea that Peter Parker would be able to make his own costume is ridiculous; but the idea the he could INVENT an unprecedented, highly viscous fluid AND a utilitarian means of dispensing said fluid which allows him to swing from rooftops is totally feasible?????????

I'm all for the web-shooters AND Peter Parker making his own costume. I think neither notion is outside of the realm of possibility in a movie or comic because of a magical storytelling device called SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF!!!

Ultimately this is a story about a dude that has powers that are impossible to have, so why should it be a stretch to also accept that he invents an impossible invention and cobbles together an impossible costume? It's fiction. It's fantasy. It doesn't all have to be grounded in reality. Chris Nolan's Batman movies are lauded as being very grounded in reality but we still accept completely unreal things in those movies. The unpractical costumes, the gas powered grappling gun, the bat summoning device, the fact that the new superhero in town has uber expensive equipment and NOBODY suspects the rich young loner who happened to have been away for several years of being this dude?!?!?!

But it's fantasy, a story. We accept it because it's fun.

In Spider-man 2 I thought, oh he's losing his powers, here come the web shooters! But nah didn't happen, someone made an article about the white part of the mask moving, I would love that, like to show emotion, and the utility belt, I know it's silly but it would go to show he is a amazing scientist, also forget the trademark red/blue I want red/black go for something different.
Also I too want a skinny spidey OMG, For goodness sakes, He was 14 when he got bit by the spider, but no one mentions he's suppose to be young!
And I don't know if you can tell in this vid or not, I want to see the outlines of his eyes through his mask for detail.

This guy is amazing! he is not a pro, but he is my favorite!

Hey @matt28 actually I liked this two designs of the suit in the article! The way the web shoot is put on the first picture is very clever.
And yeah I want to see web shooters, that would bring funny moments on the movie and trouble for Peter on the fights lol.

It'd be cool to see the web-shooters for a change since this is a reboot. But I just can't see the suit being changed. From the classic to the ultimate versions, the costume has remained practically the same (save for the shape and size of the eye pieces) and has become a part of the character.

I do think they should change the fabric of which the suit was made from. The suit Peter made from Raimi's films doesn't look like anything anyone could pick up or sow on their own. They could just make the suit of a different fabric; something that looks homemade. Either that or go with the ultimate route's origins and just let it have been given to Peter for his short and brief wrestling career.

Other things they could change are the size and shape of the eye pieces. Raimi's films had the size more wider and stretched, similarly as Todd McFarlane's illustrations. They could make them more oval-shaped like the classic Lee & Ditko version. That and add the under-webbing.

Overall, other suits that I would like to see would be the black suit (not as the symbiote, but something Peter creates for more stealthier missions) and the Reilly version with the hoodie (as a type of proto-type costume), but I can't see them changing the suit.

And like what you and gambitfreak said, they should just try and make Peter look skinny in the suit. He is supposed to be a teenager and you'd think the tights he is wearing would show that! :)

Spider Mask’s eyes based on emotion: I know all you are saying, “What?” I know it sounds ridiculous and the moving eyes based on emotion are only used in the cartoons and comics but think about it in use of science. I know I’m going to receive a whole bunch of negativity for this but if you just look at it from how I am; you could see this being a reality. I know some of the explaining would be about face muscles, veins, etc. If you think of a guy that can create Web Shooters, why can’t he use his brain to make this? Maybe have him smart as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and make it easily. Like Reed wouldn’t be able to do it in his sleep, really. Or maybe he could get some help from Reed and he could tell him how to make it. Or Maybe only the mask could be indestructible or something. Everyone knows Spider-Man is the only hero that was able to keep his identity a secret from everyone than any other heroes. The only two superheroes that can keep there identity secret the most is Spider-Man and Superman. This mask can help with that. I’m just giving different ideas here.

I am a child of the Larson/McFarlane spidey so if I could change anything from the Raimi suit it would be the eyes, colors, and pattern.

Eyes: I agree with the previous posts; the eyes need a more oval organic feel to the white areas and a thicker black boarder with more pronounced points at the tear ducts and upper edge. As for showing emotion, it could easily be done with minor CG touches. But how would they explain it? I love the organic feel of the illustrations in the article.

Colors: I always found the Raimi suits a bit drab almost washed out at times. There needs to be a very striking crimson red something very vibrant, not pinkish and certainly not maroon. I am sick of seeing red suits made darker for film... I'm looking at you DD and Superman. As for the blue, make it darker; a deep navy to near black with a navy sheen would look awesome.

Pattern: We've seen the wide raised webs, why not try a tighter more compact web pattern in a pearl black metallic finish so that when light strikes certain parts of the webbing it will appear slightly raised and take on a silverish slightly sparkling appearance. I saw a cosplayer do this at DragonCon last year and in a darker room it made a unique effect of allowing him to be nearly unseen in shadows, but the webbing caught the light and shown in the dark on a quarter of the suit outlining half his face, shoulder, and arm. I thought it looked brilliant. The webbing was a stretchable rubber mesh that he had painted with pearl metallic automotive paint of all things. I also wouldn't mind seeing the thin stretchable armpit webbing.

As for the web shooters, I know it’s not popular, but I didn't mind the organic shooters so much. I thought it showed how much the toxin affected Pete giving him even more spider-like ability than just the sticking to walls.

Alternate costumes would be interesting too. I wouldn't mind seeing Pete in a few versions of the suit that look more like other well known spidersuits through the years, maybe a Ben Reilly variant with the large chest Spider, a simpler Scarlet Spider look, but the only thing I request; it they ever do the black suit don't touch a thing. In my mind the black suit was one of the most awesome supersuits in comic history. The Black suit's simplicity and graph starkness is simply perfect to me, a solid black body suit and mask with the sharp white eyes, massive wrap around spider emblem, and the white pads on the top od the fists... I was just awesome.

i'd like webshooters and i'd like to have spidey's suit darker like a dark red and dark blue kinda like they did superman's costumes in superman returns... and also i kinda hope they tone it down a bit 4 the 1st series peter was 18 and there is no way he'd be able to design a suit like that... much less if he was 15 or 16!

I like that concept art. Who drew that?

I agree: I wish Peter had made his own suit, it's part of the charm. That's why Kick-Ass is this century's Spidey.
Web-shooters: if they're smart, he will find something that his dad invented and somehow piece it together. But the hard to cut/tear webbing and replenishing it, it's still a stretch even for a comic book movie. Why wouldn't he patent it and make tons of money?
The reboot is what it is. Just remember, Spider-Man won't be the last to have it done. People will start freaking when they do it to Batman, Iron Man, and...Howard the Duck!

personally id like to see the lizard as the first villian, but potray him in a realistic light. then maybe move to doc ock or green goblin. we also need a better symbiote move, spidey 3 was trash. We also need new villians, not all of the ones from SAM RAIMI in the same chronological order. OH, and keep the costume the same.

I want the costume to be a combo of Eviltwins eye Idea, That second Concept sketch and some of Ben Reilly's costume in there, and maybe some web wings under his arms like in the old comic book just to see what that would look like Live. I loved the old costume but hell it looked far to complex for Peter to make, I mean he is a photographer and sciencetest, not a seamstress.

But seriously new costume! Or whats the point of this reboot...
Eviltwin
Eviltwin - 8/9/2010, 1:51 PM
They will never ever put anything of Ben Reilly's costumes in any of the films. Why? Because they were both jokes, absolute stupidity, and the most ridiculous things anybody has ever seen. Whoever came up with those costumes should be shot.

I wanna puke every time I see Scarlett Spider/New Spidey suits.

@leee

Dude, we get it, you dont like the idea of a reboot. You are not going to watch the reboot. You liked the cheesey dancing, crying, emo-spidey. We get it.

Please, do me a favour and go watch Rami's trilogy.
You can sit on the edge of your bed and cry (like Rami's Peter Parker) about the wonders that could have been with the Vultress and Spider-baby. That way, those that are actually looking for news on the reboot can come to his site and not have to see your repeatative, un-imaginative, increasingly annoying comments in EVERY spidey article.

Im sorry dude; I used to enjoy reading your comments, but lately you really have become little more that an annoying troll.

I am a huge Spidey fan (its the reason I started coming here) and while I enjoyed many of the things Rami did; I am not blind to the fact that it was not a true representation of the Peter Parker character (or Spider-Man for that matter). I wont even go into the nearly un-bearable amounts of oh boy-golly gee chesse that was present in his films; how he completely [fricked] (just for you) up the character of MJ; or his shameful adaptation of Venom.

He had his chance and he dropped the ball badly with number 3. Why would anybody in thier right mind give him another $200 mil to make another abomination that could end up sinking this franchise for a decade (Batman and Robin)?

This is a chance to undo Rami's wrongs and I welcome that with open arms. Its a chance to see the real Green Goblin, a real MJ, a real Venom, and a real Peter Parker/ Spider-Man!! All of which are impossible in the universe Rami created!

Its fine if you dont want that, you've got your Spidey films. How about you let those of us that are hoping with crossed fingers that this time they get it right; read about the upcoming reboot without your incessent bashing? As I wrote earlier, WE GET IT!

Edit: I thought I should add that this was hard for me as Leee was the first to welcome me to this site but you don't [frick] with Spidey.

I like the costume in the Raimi films, but I'm open to a change as well. By "change," I should clarify that I still think it should stick to the comic look. Raimi's was real close, but it seems to me you could do a different look that's also real close to the comics.
TheLonelyComicBookNerd
TheLonelyComicBookNerd - 8/10/2010, 5:25 AM
They can change the spiders, change the colors to a darker or lighter tone, a different pattern (Raimi's suit had a Hexagon Pattern). Different kind of webs, will it be printed? Or will it be 3-D? Urethane? Different costume Lenses.
The possibility's are endless!

OdinsBeard
OdinsBeard - 8/10/2010, 10:42 AM
yeah, gotta ditch the gray webs. make them black and everything will be cool! otherwise the suit was spot on! wouldn't change a thing.

and no. no mechanical web shooters. and it's for the same reason Raimi never showed peter "making" his final suit. it just raises to many questions. how did he make that? oh he's a tailor now too? how did he design those web shooters? he's so broke but so smart he can invent a weapon no one else has ever heard of nor will try to emulate? he works for his jerk boss Jameson when he could be making millions working for the government developing something tony stark himself couldn't make? and he's 15???... it's ridiculous. audiences are too smart for this and it would waste so much screen time explaining how he makes his costume and web shooters while working, going to school, having a social life, and being spider-man all before getting home before curfew. no thanks...

i remember watching the spider-man cartoon as a 7 year old, seriously, and i found out his web shooters were invented by him and not organic. and as a 7 year old kid i knew that made no sense. and it still doesn't and Raimi knew it too.

a guy with the powers of a spider should be able to spin his own webs. it should part of his abilities.

NERO - 8/10/2010, 9:16 PM
Ach! Guys come on. The suit can still be "the suit" from the comics, but look different.

All of these are the classic Spiderman suit much like Raimi used. Each of these suits look very different because even though the design is the same the style used to reach that design is very different. That is how I see Webb bringing the suit to the screen, use the classic design, but add his own flair to it. It will still be Spiderman, just in a new style that could basically be the suit, but very different than we have seen before.

Webb is NOT going to reuse the suit or ANYTHING from the Raimi films. Why? Because these are HIS Spiderfilms now, not Raimi's. Whether the SHOULD reuse the suit is a moot point, they frankly WON'T reuse the suit as it was.
