There is no surprise that writers have been hired to pen a third Amazing Spider-Man, as Sony already marked June 10, 2016 as the released date for the third film. Hell, they even set a release date for the fourth film in the franchise, May 4, 2018. Today, The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, that Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, the trio that helped to write The Amazing Spider-Man 2 screenplay (story by James Vanderbilt), have been asked back for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Also coming back, will be producers, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. As for director Marc Webb, Sony hopes that he will return.

The duo of, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, will have their hands full as they are already committed to writing Star Trek 3, Locke & Key and the reboot of The Mummy.

TASM2 - Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

They can't write for toffee but people either love of hate their stuff.

1) They're the same idiots who write the Transformers stuff the public love but 80's fanboys hate.

2) They're the same idiots who write the pathetic plots and scripts for the new Star Trek that the public largely couldn't give a shit about but fanboys who could never process real Star Trek are now claiming is the greatest thing ever!

Two confirmed hacks working on a project that, even with the added pull of higher ticket prices didn't approach the grosses of the original. Bad move by Sony to write off the original series so quickly and reboot so soon.
I thought the first was awful and have no plans to see the second until it hits cable, maybe then only if nothing else is going on at the same time. Orci and lurtzman are lazy hacks. Hiring Orci and Kurtzman just confirmed my plans.
I am a lifelong Trekker, but guess what? I have no plans to go see number 3 of whatever it is they are doing in the theater either.
These guys are poison.

It's pretty noticeable now that Spidey is pretty much all Sony has when it comes to films when they already have the release date planned for the third film when we haven't even gotten to the year the second film is supposed to come out. We didn't even get a full official trailer release for the second one yet.
