IGN reports that Gil Bellows (24: Redemption, Alley McBeal) will bring the comic character Maxwell Lord on the Smallville episode 'Charade'. The role is rumored to be a recurring one, which hints at a 10th season of Smallville being in the works.

In the comics world, Maxwell Lord worked behind the scenes to help form the Justice League International, and has recently been revealed to be a villain. He has been portrayed with and without telepathic powers. He was the cause of comic hero Blue Bettle's murder, and was ultimately brought down by Wonder Woman. During Geoff John's latest Blackest Night crossover, Lord returned as a resurrected Black Lantern.

What do you think Maxwell Lord's purpose will be on Smallville? Will he be the catalyst that forces Clark and Ollie to form the Justice League?

MPP - Though I'm not a fan of Smallville by any means, it's easy to see that they are finally putting effort into incorporating characters that matter to the Justice League mythos; instead of just throwing in random cameos. Wise move on their part.
