SCOOP: Details On The 3D Conversion For MAN OF STEEL

Will they or wont they? That has been the question ever since a report from IMAX that Man Of Steel is being converted to 3D. They posted it last week with several news sites picking up the information, then Warner Brothers sent out e-mails saying that the info was false and they have not made a decision on 3D conversion yet. Well according to my WB insider they WILL be converting the film to 3D, and are none to happy with IMAX for jumping the gun on the announcement. The reason they are not happy is because WB had just signed the contracts to do the conversion and was wanting to make the announcement themselves during the films viral marketing closer to the release date. They are wanting to put it off for as long as they can because they know how fans feel about 3D movies and are wanting to avoid any bad press for the flick right out of the gate. The conversion will be handled by two companies who were not disclosed to me. However, I was told that the work on the 3D conversion begins next month in August. To further support this information take a look at the photo to the right that was captured during the Plano, IL shoot by Gregory Zonsius. The piece of equipment you are looking at is a 3D environmental scanner. What it does it scans the environment and takes measurements for the post 3D conversion process.

Another interesting bit of info regarding the 3D conversion is that it was the cause of the release date change that was announced during last years San Diego Comic Con. The film was originally set for release date of December of this year but was moved to June 14th of 2013. The conversion process takes roughly eight months to complete, and Warner wants to make sure they have plenty of time to get it done.

Man Of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne with Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, and will be released on June 14, 2013.

I'm dreading to see Synder's visual flair. Very nauseating. We should have a Superman film with a normal color palette.

Noooooooo! Screw 3D. It just puts a tacky stamp on a film.

But I'm still very much looking forward to this movie.

I get he feeling that this isnt true, why would Nolan as a producer allow that I mean he does have some creative control.

I'll be seeing this in regular 2D, unless the 3D really is great, then I may see it the 2nd time in 3D. Maybe it'll be good given the amount of time they have till the release date.

I saw my first IMAX 3D movie just a few weeks ago (The Amazing Spider-Man July 3 to be exact) and I have to say I was blown away. I think Zack Snyder's style will transition wonderfully to 3D.

I'm both a supporter and opponent of stereoscopic 3D. The problem here isn't necessarily that Man Of Steel is going to be in 3D— but the idea that Warner Brothers will probably consider 3D for all their DC productions. I wish they could find another niche (I'd say: IMAX. But not all directors are up to it).

As for Zack Snyder's visual style "enchancing" the 3D experience— I'd agree with that.... only if the film is majorly brightly lit.

Should add depth to the film so 3D is a good idea not to mention the fact they need an ace in the hole to up ticket sales when its released.

LOVE 3D and it suits superhero films so well. Plus Snyder's flair for visuals and action should make this a treat.

Of course the film has to be good for any of that to matter. But personally I have loved all of Snyder's films to date

Can't believe people are even paying so much attention to this 3D convesion news, seriously, does it really matter that much? It is not like you can't 2D, right? Besides, there are still a lot of people liking 3D and more version of the movies usually means more money, which is exactly a movie like THIS desperately needed (more box office, more chance for a sequel, and when you have a sequel, even if sequel sucks, you can still go on shootting a third movie and even more. Take iron man for an example.) So basically I seriously think this is a rather good news, panic is just silly....

Lol wb knows how the fans feel about 3D and are scared to announce their plans. If they know the fans hate it turn why do it.....money of course. I'll be seeing this in 2D WB so suck it.

Steverodgerson@ yes because anyone who hates 3D is a nolanite now. Dumbass

@72 agreed, I don't know why people are bitching about this, just don't watch it in 3D. If anything it helps boost their profit which is great for a Sequel and a JLA movie. I Plan on seeing it in 2D first and then 3D,cause there's is no way I'm passing up the chance to see Supes kick ass in my face.

I like 3D. You don't have to see it in 3D so I don't see what all the whining is about.

@TheBatman50k That's a common misconception my friend. He shepherded the script to Warner Bros., picked a director, and that's it. From there he moved on to TDKR. He has no say on what in truth is a company matter.

Just to show that at the end WB is the boss, not Christopher Nolan.

I guess when it comes down to it. Studios realize that 70% of folks want to watch these films in 2D, but they want the extra $ from the remaining 30% who will fork it out. As long as folks who only want 2D keep going to ONLY 2D films, they will remain and we can let the other folks have their fun with their little glasses!

"I love how Marvel trolls are talking about how DC is selling out...but ALL OF MARVEL'S MOVIES WERE RELEASED IN 3D YOU [frick]ING TROLLS!"

Umm...I believe that was a joke pointing out the irony of the DC fans that have frequented The Avengers' articles saying the same thing about The Avengers and Marvel films. ;-)

Agreed. They went on and on about how WB wouldn't go the 3D route (although the piece of crap known as Green Lantern did it) like Marvel did with Thor, Cap, and The Avengers. Funny how that works.

I have a feeling this movie isn't going to be all that good.
