Jeremey Irons made his debut as Alfred Pennyworth in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice before returning as The Dark Knight's loyal "butler" in Justice League. The veteran actor was given a more substantial part in the Snyder Cut, but with Warner Bros. seemingly dead set on moving on from the "SnyderVerse" era of the DCEU, we figured that would be the last we'd see of him in the role.
However, internet scooper Viewer Anon is now reporting that Irons will return as Alfred for The Flash.
We know Ben Affleck will be back as his take on Batman in the Andy Muschietti-directed movie, so we assume Irons will appear in his scene(s). Affleck is only expected to feature in a couple of sequences, though, so we probably shouldn't anticipate Alfred having anything close to a prominent role.
Of course, Andy Serkis played Alfred in Matt Reeves' The Batman, but there's still room for another incarnation of the iconic character in the main DC Films Universe. As far as we know, the plan is for Michael Keaton to step in as the franchise's Caped Crusader moving forward, which may not bode well for Irons staying on in the role after The Flash.
There's always a chance this won't pan out, anyway, but the source does appear to be at least semi-reliable. Would you guys like to see Jeremy Irons return as Alfred, or should WB recast the role yet again?
