In a different part of the Multiverse, Ben Affleck made his Batman movie and is still playing the Dark Knight alongside Henry Cavill as one of the faces of the DC Extended Universe. Sadly, things didn't quite work out that way, but the actor will suit up one final time to bid farewell to Bruce Wayne in The Flash.
He won't be that movie's only Caped Crusader, as Michael Keaton also reprises his earlier take on the character for what sounds like a leading role (compared to an extended cameo for Affleck).
Those of you dreaming about an epic Batman team-up look set to be disappointed, though, as the actor spillled the beans during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Asked if his The Tender Bar co-star George Clooney appears, Affleck responded: "If he is, he hasn’t told me. It’s possible. [Clooney] may be very guarded. As far as I know, he doesn’t want to return to that level height of cowl ears. But I don’t believe he’s in the ‘Flash’ movie."
"But then again, I didn’t even see Michael Keaton, so maybe [Clooney] is there?" he concluded.
It's entirely possible Affleck is just having fun and looking to throw fans off the scent, but we're betting the two Bruce Waynes don't get the opportunity to share the screen. The Flash does seem to be more about the creation of a new timeline a la Flashpoint rather than an adventure following the Scarlet Speedster through the Multiverse, so perhaps this was to be expected?
Either way, we're still expecting some big surprises when the Fastest Man Alive returns to the big screen, and more Affleck in the cape and cowl is far from a bad thing.
The Flash races into theaters on November 4, 2022.
