Merchandise for The Flash has confirmed that Dark Flash will be the movie's main villain, though aside from his monstrous appearance, we really don't know what to expect from the character.
We can deduce that the movie is pulling inspiration from both Dark Flash and Black Flash, creating an original baddie who will likely pursue Barry Allen through the Speed Force when he travels back in time. However, some official character details have offered a better idea of what fans can expect from the still very mysterious villain.
Buzzfeed has shared a description revealed at the Abrin 2023 Toy Fair in Latin America, confirming Dark Flash "steals the [souls] of speedster heroes."
This lines up with the source material to some extent as Black Flash serves as a Grim Reaper who collects the souls of fallen speedsters. This interpretation also seems to be pulling from Dark Flash and even The Flash TV show's take on Black Flash (there, Zoom became the monster and was tasked with keeping errant speedsters in check).
We're assuming this big screen take on the villain is a version of Barry Allen who is corrupted by the Speed Force, though the fact he wants to steal the Scarlet Speedster's soul suggests he might be a recurring threat throughout the story.
Thus far, the movie's trailers have only really teased Michael Shannon's General Zod as an antagonist, with this Dark Flash kept under wraps aside from what we've seen courtesy of Funko Pops, action figures, and descriptions like this one. It's hard to say what the reason is for all this secrecy, though it's possible Warner Bros. just wants to maintain the surprise for fans.
Alas, with the studio intending to screen The Flash at CinemaCon more than two months before it arrives in theaters, we expect major spoilers for the movie to start finding their way online as soon as April.
The Flash races into theaters on June 16.
