THE FLASH: Studio Insiders Reportedly Comparing The Movie To Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT

There's a lot of positive buzz surrounding The Flash movie heading to theaters this summer, with studio insiders already comparing the Scarlet Speedster's first big screen solo outing to The Dark Knight...

While The Flash no longer looks set to have the same level of importance to the DCEU DCU as it once did under the previous regime, many fans remain excited about the movie. After all, it's going to be a Multiversal adventure that brings Michael Keaton back as Batman and introduces Sasha Calle as Supergirl!

Variety recently shared a preview of this year's big screen offerings, revealing that "Studio insiders haven’t been this excited for Warner Bros. superhero movie since 'The Dark Knight' movies."

Sounds promising, right?

However, the trade goes on to point out that "almost everything" about The Flash suggests it will be a "massive summer sensation," but emphasise the "almost."

Pointing to Ezra Miller's recent issues, it's pointed out that their past behaviour is all some people know about them, "a terrible place to start for a studio that needs to sell its star as an aspirational superhero." It's previously been reported that The Flash has received overwhelmingly positive response at test screenings, but the odds are still stacked against this one.

"With DC’s new leadership preparing a reboot on top of the controversy surrounding Miller," it's explained, "Warner Bros. now has a precarious high-wire promotional campaign ahead of it to get audiences to stop paying attention to its star's past and focus instead on the movie they’re leading."

Throw in the fact that plans for The Flash to set the stage for movies like Batman Beyond and Crisis on Infinite Earths have likely been scrapped by DC Studios, and selling the Scarlet Speedster's first solo movie looks set to be easier said than done.

Many fans have rolled their eyes over the fact this adventure will feature two versions of The Flash, both of whom look set to be idiots. Batman returning to action after retiring is interesting, though, and we know Supergirl won't be at full power when we meet her here. That's a good way to ensure she doesn't just lay waste to the movie's mystery big bad.

That's still expected to be Michael Shannon's General Zod, with no apparent plans for Reverse-Flash to appear despite him being an obvious choice of villain for this story.

The Flash is set to be released in theaters on June 23, 2023.

Even if it's as good as No Way Home, it's a massive summer sensation and studio insiders are excited, I just don't look forward to it.

I never was a big fan of Miller as Flash (although he was better in ZSJL), or Miller himself. Only reason I do wanna see is this is because of Keaton and Calle.

this could genuinely be an incredible, all-timer cbm but i still feel like if it’s a hit it’ll be because of keaton nostalgia. we’ll see i guess.

feel like the biggest financial hits of 2023 will be some combination of indiana jones, guardians, and mission impossible. oppenheimer could be a big hit too, since that’s dependent on legs and word of mouth. expecting big drops fo the marvels and aquaman 2.

@tmp3 - does Keaton have a big role or is it minimal like Batgirl was supposed to be?

@bobevanz - according to a test screening report i read somewhere, he’s in “half of the 140 minute runtime”. 140 seem astronomically long for something like this 💀

@movienerd84 - the thing about oppenheimer people are forgetting is it’ll open just ok but then have great legs since it’s not a fan rush heavy thing

Zero plans to see this regardless of the reviews - Ezra being a violent predator was enough alone to skip this but to fire Henry Cavill as Superman was the beginning of the end of Gunn’s DC career as fas as I’m concerned. I know diehard Marvel fans that plan to boycott this simply because Ezra is involved.

@duncboy - not just Marvel fans.
Die-Hard dc fans, general fans and a lot of "normal" people will boycot the movie

I mean. It’s apples and oranges really. Ones a ‘super serious this is a real thing that could happen’ Batman film and the other is a completely insane time travelling multiverse Batman film…. I mean flash film. I was never that excited about it because of Ezras Flash not being great and never being a fan of the Burton Batmans, but at this point I’m starting to look forward to it out of pure morbid curiosity

They aren't saying it's as good as The Dark Knight. They said they haven't been this excited about a Warner Brks superhero film SINCE the DARK KNIGHT MOVIES.

Big difference there.

@CorndogBurglar - that's like being excited for a biopsy

@bobevanz - Why? The Dark Knight movies are some of the most beloved superhero movies of all time.

I personally didn't like Bale as Batman. His Bruce Wayne was good. But the first two movies in the series were great.

Audiences are excited every single time a Batman movie comes out.

They were excited for BvS, they were excited for Batman & Robin.

The only exception to the rule might be The Batman, but that's probably due to the fact that audiences were done with DC in general. It's hard to get excited about a Batman that's not supposed to count.
