Director Alan Taylor, tells Empire that he was surprised he landed the gig since he isn't a "fantasy guy," nor was he even a fan of Peter Jackson's wildly popular Lord of the Rings trilogy. “When they first came to me I thought it was a mistake! (Taylor laughs) But, yeah, they clearly saw something they liked in Game Of Thrones. And from my end it’s been hugely useful to have that experience, in terms of imagery and tone. That was my first foray into greenscreen work and CGI and stuff. Nothing compared to this, but at least it was a bit of a warm-up.”

While the first film that Kenneth Branagh ("Jack Ryan") was successful at the box office and with critics, Taylor believes there is room for improvement. Once such aspect, the look of Asgard, “When I had that first meeting with Marvel I said, ‘I liked the first one, but for me the world would look different, it would feel different,’” Taylor reveals. “I mean, I really respect what they did. It was a conscious choice to say, ‘These are not ancient gods, this is an alien race that’s been mistaken for ancient gods.’ Which is an intriguing way to do it, and it’s supported by Marvel mythology. But it had the effect of making everything new and shiny, and that was what bugged me the most. So I came in thinking, ‘Okay, let’s look at the ancient and see what happens.”

The article describes a Thor: The Dark World scene in which Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and her bruised and battered Asgardian lover (Chris Hemsworth) return to Earth, after being in Thor's mystical world.
“You’ve been to Asgard!” observes Stellan Skarsgård’s Dr. Selvig, greeting them in only shirt and underpants (“I’ve been overmedicating to try to heal the damage done in my brain by Loki in The Avengers,” Skarsgård explains). Then he and Thor embrace. Skarsgård hold the hug. His crotch starts jiggling, bumping his nethers against Odinson’s own. The camera tilts down to his barely covered backside.

The article also vaguely describes the plot of the film, with some interesting quotes from Hemsworth and Taylor.
Asgard’s realms have sunk into a state of war against brutal invaders when long-forgotten enemies surface: the Dark Elves, commanded by Christopher Eccleston’s silver-haired Malekith. “Our stories are quite separate, parallel to each other while we do our own thing,” Hemsworth says of his deadly new nemesis. “And then we collide at the end.” The Asgardians, from Odin down, have, Taylor says “gotten scuffed up a little bit”.

If you look closely at Malekith's picture you can see they confirm dark matter in the film! Proves my theory!

I like his look, but they got his skin backwards. His skin is supposed to be black. The white side is the side that looks weird, decayed, part of his curse. Small gripe. No big deal. Cant wait for CURSE!!

I really can't be the only who thinks that Alan Taylor and his design crew have made the Dark Elves look like they walked off the set of Doctor Who. it's cheeky, since Christopher Eccleston was the 9th Doctor and all, but it's also out of place since it makes everything looks goofy and dorky as shit.

Why do all Marvel villains has to have an army (Red Skull, Frost Giants, Aldrich, Whiplash, Malekith, Loki)???.

I mean, their armies always look like average Troopers from Power Rangers that are killed easily! (HIDRA, Chitauri, Dark elves, Extremis soldiers, etc)

people have GOT to get over the goofy/dorky shit in CBM's. They are superheroes, of course they goofy. Same with villains. They are also from another world, maybe they should look more like American soldiers with camouflage and no metallic armor... idiots.

Dark Elves seem like lame villains. Why not Surtur? Absorbing Man? And I like Asgard bright, shiny, and majestic. Asgard doesn't have to resemble an old viking village. And dark matter guns? Sounds stupid.

I'm gonna go ahead and predict that their interpretation of Kurse will be very conservative and simple and fanboys will be upset over a minor character.

CBM of the year!

@IRONRED

Zod has an army in MOS. So, it's not just Marvel villains.

theInvincibleMexiMan - 5/25/2013, 8:32 AM
Man this movie is going to be so awesome. This is my most anticipated phase 2 movie so far. Malekith looks AMAZING.

@IRONRED

Also, Bane and Ras Al Ghul had armies as well. So theres that.
IRONRED
IRONRED - 5/25/2013, 8:41 AM
But, ZOD's army looks like no more than 5 or 6 guys. Bane's army were supported by the argument of being a terrorist, same with Iron Man (1) terrorist army...

I am talking about the STANDARIZATION of the army's look, because nobody can deny the Power Ranger trooper effect...

Oh PLEASE. Just because it's based on a comicbook DOES NOT MEAN Goofy/Dorky is okay! There's a reason why your boy Superman got rid of the shitty Red Undies and "My mom made my suit" in MoS. That shit was goofy, and it was time to go.

I think Surtur has to be the big bad behind this.
Maybe Ragnorak will be the end game for THOR 3

I sure hope he wears his helmet this time at some point however I think when Odin dies (I think he'll die in this movie) and Thor becomes king only then will he don the helmet.
