Being Mentored by director, Kenneth Branagh, Keri Collins has recently visited the Thor set again, and gave his thoughts on Marvel's 2011 adaption.

From a Thor update over at Screenrant, Keri Collins, a BBC broadcast Writer/Director,recently got the chance to rejoin his mentor, Kenneth Branagh , on the set of Marvel's Thor. Here is what he said.

“Obviously I can’t reveal anything of what I saw whilst there but needless to say I had an awesome time and gained so much more than I expected in terms of career development. I think you guys are going to be very happy when the movie is released; what I saw absolutely blew me away.

I was also struck by just how friendly and welcoming everyone on set was, including the fantastic Craig Kyle and Kevin Feige from Marvel who could easily have told me to go away and stop malingering around their movie set, but instead made me feel like part of the team. I heard Craig talking to someone about one of the sequences in the movie and the passion with which he delivered it was so intense and engaging that it was almost like seeing the finished movie in my head right there! These guys care so much about the source material that I don’t think the movie could be in better hands.”

Kenneth Branagh has been mentoring Keri, for some time as part of a scheme for emerging UK talent. Marvel's Thor, I really think they should manage a Thor teaser trailer, that could appear before Iron Man 2 in theaters, letting regular movie goers that another adaption to the same universe is in the works. Just an idea, what do you think?

Well so far we haven't heard one negative thing about Thor's set or production. Wish I could say the same for Captain America.

yeah I'm drastically caring less and less about Cap, I'm gonna be honest...I don't think Joe Johnstone is right for the job, he said himself he's not a fan of the character.

joe johnston never said he wasn't a fan of the character. he said he's not a big fan of comics; which, to me, is a breath of fresh air... not lying like a lot of these other people are.

Releasing Thor's trailer just before Iron Man 2 is what we all want, but I don't think they have enough footage for a trailer, perhaps 8 months later...

@ironclad- Actually he did say that he was not a fan of comics, which is a worry. Look at Iron Man, TIH and the upcoming Thor. All of those directors are big fans of the characters in Thor's case Branagh is a fan of the period and mythology...which is important. Jon said himself that to do these film you need to be interested, if Joe was all like "I might not know the character off by heart but he appeals to me and I promise to make the best movie I can make" then I'd be all for him, but he's not like that at all. He's lazy.

Ryden: Where did he say that? I've read pretty much every word that's been said and I don't recall him saying anything close to that.

You guys seem to be confusing 'official' news with the rumour mill and/or reading stuff into things which have never been said officially (like the silly casting rumours, on which Marvel and Johnston have said not a word).

Officially we've heard very little and what we have heard is all good - that it's a period piece with the Invaders being a major part of it.

Some of you are reacting like hysterical tweens to the merest rumour, no matter how silly. Get a grip and hold back your reactions until we see something official.

Branagh was not a fan of the comics at all btw - he had never read them until he got the gig and then went in deep. Same with RDJ. Nolan wasn't a comics fan either, but he did an ok job too...

I'm glad that this is shaping up to be good because I've pretty much lost ALL interest in The First Avenger: Captain America after the awful casting rumours of late!

It would go over well I think.

@JoshW: Why are you losing interest because of silly rumours? Don't read them if they annoy you. Because you're here, I assume you WANT to see a Captain America movie, so why let silly gossip (because that's all it is) ruin your excitement and anticipation?

It's going to be like this for every Marvel movie from now on - ever since Iron Man (which kind of came in under the radar as far as the Hollywood gossip circuit was concerned) hit big, any future tentpole Marvel movie will garner exactly this kind of speculative casting and story gossip - most of which we've seen from experience is total BS. So why let the BS interfere with your possible enjoyment? It just seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face...

Here's a bag of salt - take one pinch a day. ;)

Yeah what Teabag said. An understanding of the material and what makes the characters so loved is obviously important, but a director can make a great CBM without being a fan of the comic beforehand.

By the way, all of these movies could suck balls! ..or be great. The only one we have seen any footage of is Iron Man.. everything else about the rest of em is up in the air until we see the same for them.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 3/9/2010, 7:55 AM
KeithM: It's not just the rumours - it's the fact that we have a director who's pretty well known for making bad films for a start! (The Wolfman, Jurassic Park etc)

As well as that, they released that shortlist full of pretty awful choices for Cap (apart from Porter perhaps) and although I hoped that was nothing more than a rumour, as time has gone on and the actors on it have pretty much confirmed its vadility I cant help but lose faith at the thought of someone like John Krasinski being cast!

Iron Man 2 and Thor had plenty of rumours but none have them have been as bad as what I've heard about Cap's movie so far! It also doesnt fill me with confidence that we were supposed to get Captain America casting news first back in October last year and now over a week ago!

I agree with tea's point that, "It realy does not matter if they are comic book fans as long as they are good directors and story tellers" - problem is Johnston is neither of those things so feel free to keep your salt. :P
KeithM
KeithM - 3/9/2010, 8:17 AM
@JoshW: Johnston has had more hits than Favreau did, Branagh has less experience on blockbusters than he has (being more theatrically minded for the most part), and LeTerrier had an even less impressive CV than any of them.

Marvel didn't release that shortlist btw so who are the "they" you refer to? Nobody who matters... And the only thing we've heard about it since are that most of them WON'T be playing Cap, so if anything, it's only showing its INvalidity. It might have been true that some/all of them put themselves forward for the role, but as I mentioned in the Jonas Bros. thread, it's hardly surprising that everyone and his dog want a piece of the action, but it actually means nothing.

I assume/hope/trust that Marvel know what they're doing (the EVIDENCE based on actual track record seems to indicate they do, which is a little more compelling than supposition, gossip and rumour) and therefore base my 'expectations' on the evidence so far and not getting my panties in a wad over idle gossip and speculation.

Every single word that has actually come from Johnston seems to indicate he has a good handle on Cap. It's only the 'reading between the lines', the character assassinations based on his CV and gossip that people seem to be focusing on, which, imo, is premature at the very least.

My position on him is "wait and see". Hey, if it turns out to be as crap as you are certain it will be, then you're welcome to say "I told you so", but until then, I'll keep taking my salt and retaining a positive, hopeful outlook. I just find life healthier that way :)

I've dealt with disappointments before (FF, SR, Wolverine, etc.), but I see no point in being miserable/down about stuff that hasn't happened yet.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 3/9/2010, 8:46 AM
KeithM: Fair points. However, it doesnt matter "who" it was - it was still released and pathetic choices like Vogel and Krasinski havent yet put themselves out of the running making it stiil very worrying and valid IMO.

I dont want to be proved right and I dont want to say, "I told you so" because I dont want to be right. I want this movie to be brilliant because it's probably the Marvel movie I'm most anticipating! (alongside The Avengers!)

I suppose that after disappointments like the one you mention, I'm no longer naive enough to cross my fingers and have blind faith that they'll do it right. I'll remain optimistic until I hear some solid casting news but until then I'd rather set my self up to be let down rather than get excited now and end up being let down! (as I did with the news Deadpool would be in Wolverine - look how that turned out, lol!)

And for the record, I think you've completely blown my original comment out of proportion! I meant that I had zero interest in hearing about the film - not that I was no longer interested in it at all!
KeithM
KeithM - 3/9/2010, 8:53 AM
@JoshW: fair enough - I would just personally like to see a more level-headed perspective about all the rumour and gossip and a little more positivity in general.

I'm old and :ahem: wise enough to know that "next year will probably be as crap as this/last year", but as a general outlook in life, that kind of attitude will make one a pretty dour person to be around. ;)

It's not naivety that gives me a positive outlook, it's a refusal to let cynicism take over and colour my perspective unduly.

@cindy- SPAAAAAAAAAMMMMMM!
But I like what I'm hearing about the thor movie coming out so far. This had better not be one of those {BLEEP}-tease movies that gets a lot of build up with hype and then gets a crappy, non-fan reverent trailer/ good trail - bad movie treatment.
