Taika Waititi Confirms Chris Hemsworth Is In Talks For THOR 5 But Reiterates He Won't Be Involved

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi appears to have confirmed Chris Hemsworth is already in talks for Thor 5 with Marvel Studios, but reiterates recent comments he has no plans to join him...

When Thor: Ragnarok was released in 2017, the critical response was overwhelmingly positive. While 2011's Thor was well-received, Thor: The Dark World largely fell flat two years later, so critical acclaim was something new for the MCU's God of Thunder.

Not everyone loved filmmaker Taika Waititi's quirky approach to the character, but Thor: Ragnarok proved to be a hit and excitement for Thor: Love and Thunder was understandably high. After all, as well as featuring Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, it saw Natalie Portman return as Jane Foster to become the Mighty Thor (two ingredients which should have guaranteed a recipe for success).

Unfortunately, it appears Marvel Studios gave the writer and director too much freedom, resulting in a movie even Chris Hemsworth has said was "too silly" before admitting "I cringe and laugh equally at it."

Waititi recently confirmed he won't helm Thor 5. However, in an interview with Inverse, he revealed that Hemsworth and Marvel Studios are engaged in talks to make a fifth Thor movie.

He'd go on to tell the site he "needed a break from that," adding, "It’s a very draining process working on these films for two and a half years and nonstop." Despite that, he isn't closing the door on working with Marvel Studios again somewhere down the line. "It’s just about when I would be able to fit that in," he admits.

In the Thor: Love and Thunder - The Official Movie Special book released by Titan earlier this year, the writer and director spoke about what he'd like to do with another Thor movie. However, that interview was likely conducted during or right after Love and Thunder wrapped shooting and long before the movie opened to some of the MCU's worst reviews.

"What is left to do to him?" Waititi wondered. "It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome. I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable."

Most fans seem to agree that Waititi moving on from the Thor franchise is for the best and another drastic reinvention for this character is likely on the cards now. What that will look like remains to be seen, though we wouldn't be surprised to see some changes made to both his supporting cast and the overall tone of the series.

Thor: Love and Thunder ended with the introduction of Hercules, so that clash feels like the logical next step. There are still plenty of villains from the comics who the Odinson hasn't crossed paths with, though, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Thor 5 doesn't currently have a confirmed release date.

If it's true that sort of contradicts Bob Iger's sequel stance. But love and Thunder tarnished the Thor brand and it would need a phenomenal trailer, villain, and promotional boost to convince the general audience to give the Thor films another chance.

"evolution of the character"?
So now he's like this.

And needs to go to this.

@WEAPONXOXOXO - The only way the MCU Thor can go to that bottom picture is to essentially say he has become grizzled and battle hardened by ensuring he protects Love at all costs.

I like that they made him a dad but taking him away from Asgard is a goddamn mistake. Thor’s place is his people.

@kg8817 - That Thor is not grizzled at all. He's actually the opposite. It's the basic Thor, the one who is very polite and wise. Also, lol, no, if they want this awful sounding fifth Thor to be have even a reason exist, they need to ditch that kid right away and pretend Ragnajoke and Dumb and Thunder never happened. I'm fine with Thor having kids, but only if those kids are a product of him and Sif sharing the same bed and if they're his actual kids from the comics or myths, not that nonsense Taika cooked up with Hemsworth.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - Listen up people, you heard it here. “Adopted children” are NOT children and are NOT worthy of love, affection, OR protection. REAL children are only the product of man and a women (albeit fictional), and ONLY of the specific pairing that THIS man has chosen. ALL other so-called “children” are void and DO NOT count.

@nhoj3 - Ever heard of the term strawman? Look it up. And also take a look at how to improve you reading comprehension. Because nothing you said is anywhere mentioned in my comments.

I was complaining about giving Thor a kid who's not related to any stories in the comics and also exists in such a terribly written way. My point was, if the MCU wasn't so stupid, if it wanted to give Thor a kid, they should've done it years ago, and done in a smart way: such as have Thor hook up with Sif (something us fans been clamoring for since the first movie) and become parents.

The only thing you can accuse me of is that I hate bad storytelling. Which, yes, I do.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - Come to think of it, I HAVE heard the term “straw man”. I think it was last used to describe the size of your genitalia, as in “it was about the size of a straw, man”.

Or was that my good friend, Ed Hominem?

@nhoj3 - Why do you give a shit what is the size of my penis and why do you even bring it up on a discussion that was about children, you weirdo? Stay away from the kids, adopted or not. Creep.

For Thor 5, they should bring in Enchantress and/or Perrikus as the villains. Maybe take inspiration from Dan Jurgens's Thor run?

All of what made Thor great has gone. No more warriors 3 no more Loki no more Odin no more Asgard no more Frigga. He has none of his lore left
