It's been confirmed this evening that British actor Chance Perdomo, best known for his roles in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Gen V, has died following a motorcycle accident on Friday.
Little in the way of specific details have been revealed about the circumstances surrounding the 27-year-old's death, though it's been widely reported that no one else was involved.
Perdomo rose to prominence thanks to his work in the After film trilogy and was nominated for a BAFTA for his work in Killed by My Debt. However, his role as Ambrose Spellman in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina put him on the map and his work as Andre in The Boys spin-off Gen V, set the stage for him to be a key part of that world.
"His passion for the arts and insatiable appetite for life was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth will carry on in those who he loved dearest," the actor's representatives at Shelter PR said today. "We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their beloved son and brother."
It sounds like Gen V season 2's filming start date will now be pushed back in the wake of Perdomo's passing and we'd assume some major changes will need to be made to the series. The show's producers have also issued a statement:
"We can’t quite wrap our heads around this. For those of us who knew him and worked with him, Chance was always charming and smiling, an enthusiastic force of nature, an incredibly talented performer, and more than anything else, just a very kind, lovely person. Even writing about him in the past tense doesn’t make sense. We are so sorry for Chance’s family, and we are grieving the loss of our friend and colleague. Hug your loved ones tonight."
Perdomo found himself caught up in a minor controversy last year when it was alleged that he followed social media accounts deemed misogynistic and transphobic. Prime Video appeared to respond to that by cutting him out of a promo for Gen V, but the whole thing seemed to blow over pretty quickly and he was clearly meant to be part of season 2.
Our thoughts go out to Chance's friends and family. As you can see below, the actor was active on Instagram as recently as two days ago, keeping fans updated as he presumably trained for his return in Gen V's next batch of episodes.
