The Boys concluded its third season yesterday with an action-packed finale that left the fates of several characters up in the air. Soldier Boy is back on ice and may very well stay there, but showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that we definitely haven't seen the last of Queen Maeve.
After a brutal battle with Homelander which cost Maeve her eye, Dominique McElligott's conflicted Supe finally decided to step up and sacrifice herself for the greater good by charging Soldier Boy right through the window before he could go supernova and destroy the entire building (or worse).
This proved to be a fake-out, however, as we'd later learn that Maeve survived - albeit without her formidable powers - as we see her bid farewell to Starlight and leave to live a normal life with her girlfriend Elena.
This seemed like a well-deserved happy ending for the beleaguered member of The Seven (who does actually die in the comics), but it sounds like she will rejoin the fray at some point before the series ends.
"We were intentionally building to a happy ending for her, always, for a lot of reasons," Kripke tells TV Line. "One, she deserved it. Believe it or not, The Boys is a moral universe, and when you make the right choices, you get rewarded, and she deserved a happy ending with Elena.”
Hopefully, Maeve will be given a bit of time to enjoy her life away from the madness, but Kripke adds that even though “[Maeve and Dominique are] going to definitely take a break… the series will definitely not end without seeing Maeve again.”
One fan-favorite character who wasn't quite so lucky was Black Noir. Homelander murdered his friend after finding out that the silent Supe had been hiding the truth about Soldier Boy being his father, and while the former Payback member does appear to be dead as a doornail, we may see a different incarnation of Black Noir at some point!
“Here’s what I will say for any Black Noir fans that are mourning his passing: A completely silent masked superhero is super easy to recast,” Kripke notes. “And there’s a reason they haven’t told the public that Noir is dead. So this is not the last we’ve seen of Noir. This is just the last we’ve seen of that version.”
