THE WALKING DEAD's Andrew Lincoln Gives The Incredibly Simple Reason Why He's Leaving The Show

AMC's adaptation of The Walking Dead has always played fast and loose with its comic book source material but no one ever thought series lead Andrew Lincoln would depart before the show's end.

Andrew Lincoln will only appear in a few episodes in season 9 of The Walking Dead before he's written off the show.  The nature of his character's departure is naturally being kept under wraps, leaving plenty of speculation as to whether Rick Grimes will die or simply leave to establish a different settlement.

Speaking to EW, Andrew Lincoln revealed that there wasn't anything complicated, malevolent or financial about his decision.  He just wanted to return home to his family.

"I have two young children, and I live in a different country, and they become less portable as they get older. It was that simple. It was time for me to come home."

That's perfectly commendable and sensible, owing to the fact that Lincoln resides in Wiltshire, England when not in Atlanta, filming The Walking Dead. As his children get older, make friends and start school, it's perfectly reasonable that he wouldn't want to uproot them every year to live in another country.

Season 9 of The Walking Dead premiere this fall.

Really wish he got cast in the MCU. He was the best thing about Walking Dead, along with Danai Gurira.

Would like to see him as a villain in the MCU. He can totally pull off that bad-ass kind of evil you'd still want to root for.

LOL...so much for all the folks who said Carl and Rick would never be killed or written out of the show.

😅

Lincoln needs to do movies now. The man is just as talented as Jon Bernthal, and deserves to "make it" just as much as he has. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts getting as much calls as Bernthal did when he left TWD all those years ago.

Whether Lincoln accepts any roles (because of his family) is the question, but yeah, I imagine he's on a lot of casting radars now.

@Kurne - He'll easily have his pick of English television series when he gets back I'm sure. It would be good to see him in films though.

What a lame excuse. They need to kill this show with fire. Back around 2011-2012, this was my favorite show on TV (rivaled only by GOT).

I can hardly believe that previous sentence now. FTWD isn't any better.

@L0RDbuckethead - FTWD was good, then they killed the best two characters in Nick and Troy. They even killed Troy at the worst possible time, it was like 'oh neat, troy is actually becoming an antihero type character and getting fleshed out better' - BAM HES DEAD

Then Nick(i know he wanted off the show but still) was such a good character and again....BAM HES DEAD. Now i cant stand the show especially since they keep pushing more story with Madison, played by Kim Dickens, who is not a good actress.

He's not leaving. They're just going to do a season that's light on Rick, so he can spend a year off.

@rabid - yeah, and Carl's still not dead either, right? Please just stop with your useless predictions.

OT: Lord Of The Rings show on Amazon continues to move forward. They just chose their showrunners. Better hurry this thing up while we still have Ian Mckellan.

Hopefully this show will come to an end, and they can work on something else. This has run its course.

Honestly, they should just have signed Lincoln for a 10 episode limited season and ended the show after that.

This show should be over anyway. The Neagan/colonies storyline ended my interest in the comics and the show.

I still think the cast of TWD is perfectly translated to the cast of the X-Men. It's too perfect for me to be the only one that sees that

and/or maybe it's becoming boring and repetitive to play the same character for the better part of the decade at a clip of like 9-10 months of each year? I mean I don't know how Mark Harmon has been doing the same thing for like friggin 15 years now, I don't care how well you're paid.

granted I stopped watching the show entirely like 3 years ago, but what about the "Old Man Rick" thing? I remember hearing about that being talked about, a flash forward they did in the show. was it like just a dream sequence, or was it a real event in the storyline, what?

Not against his decision but wish he could have finished the whole season instead of just half way.
