Yesterday's news that John Constantine is coming to Arrow was met with open arms by fans of his now cancelled series, but there's been an awful lot of talk about his appearance in episode five of The CW series being only a one off. Even if that is the case - which I don't think it is; Matt Ryan being added to the cast of DC's Legends of Tomorrow honestly makes more sense - Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle wouldn't confirm or deny anything either way. "Right now, it really was -- it’s born out of necessity for this particular story. I think Mark was right, it is a one off and this is what we’re focusing on right now." I'm not sure about you, but I'm not buying that for a second!
Mericle did however drop some fresh details on how much of a role Constantine is going to play in the return of Sara Lance. "It was born more out of the storyline for Sara Lance. We needed someone to come in and help bring her back," she revealed. "He felt like the most exciting possibility and we’re just thrilled to get him. He brings such a different element to the show." This is the same John we came to know and love in his short-lived NBC story though, right? "Absolutely. He is coming in fully as who he was on the show. We’re getting wardrobe. We’re very excited to have him. He’s a tremendous actor. It’s so cool to have that cross-pollination. We are very lucky and DC was very generous letting us have him." Generous? They do own the rights to him!
Unless Matt Ryan is too busy to commit to a recurring role as Constantine, it surely makes the most sense for him to play a role in Legends of Tomorrow as I've mentioned above. He would be a great addition to that series (especially as he's clearly going to play a major role in bringing back Sara), so here's hoping enough people tune into this episode to ensure that The CW realises we want to see more of him. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know in the usual place.
