Fox May Be Considering A GOTHAM Spin-Off

As the age of shared universes continues to push forward, Fox's current 'Batman' prequel may be the next to receive the franchise treatment. It seems that the pre-hero DC Universe may have been larger than we once thought.

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Extended Universe, gone are the days of the standalone project, at least where comic book adaptations are concerned. For better or for worse, the fan community is engrained in the era of the shared universe, a trend it seems that not even Gotham could escape. The Fox television series serves as a prequel to the age-old Batman mythos and, up to this point, the series has sustained itself without the aid of other franchises. However, that may be about to change.

While attending a Television Critics Association press tour, Fox chairman and CEO Gary Newman revealed that Fox is willing to consider expanding the world of Gotham with new projects and television spin-offs.

"We're really happy with the creative on Gotham this year. We thought the Rise of the Villains has been great, and it feels like a world that has many, many stories to tell. We haven't had any conversations with Warner [Brothers] about whether or not they'd want to do a spin-off series. I think that would be an issue for DC. It isn't quite clear to me that they'd be ready to do that, but it's a good idea."

Gotham features a large variety of characters from the DC Universe, ranging from future caped crusaders to super-villains, so whom a spin-off would feature is anyone's guess. A Fox television series starring the Question or the Spectre would perhaps be the most obvious choices, considering that Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen were both series regulars in Gotham's first season.

Gotham: Rise of the Villains will return with all new episodes 29 February 2016. Stay tuned for further news as it develops.

Welcome, I am Darkknight2149. I am primarily a fan of comic books and their various adaptations, as well as horror and other classic film franchises.

As far as the "DC vs. Marvel" rivalry goes, I'm really not biased when it comes to studios and publishers. Preferences are fine, but I've never understood the basing of opinions purely by the studio/publisher that makes it.
