Before there was Batman, there was GOTHAM. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker? GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told.

Great show. actually, currently ALL of the comic book TV shows have been good.
AoS is amazing, Arrow is astonishing, The Flash is admirable, Gotham is awesome, Constantine is Acceptable and The Walking Dead is Awe Inspiring.
if you disagree, meh, who cares. your opinions or comments will not stop me from enjoying the shows :)

The issue is they can play with the origin story, but they've messed up the timeline so much that when Bruce would finally reach the age when he takes on the Batman mantle, most the villains would already have existed for over 10 years...

I mean they have plans for Joker... whose origin is supposed to be tied to Batman. Plus i've been hearing rumours that a second series would have Harvey Dent get the facial scars and become Two Face (A corrupt politician facing off against a cop)

Not to mention the character of Bruce SUCKS, he's like the worst character on the show. The actor is alright, but i now care more about Penguin getting revenge than ever seeing Batman appear. Yet they still keep hammering in that its 'before Batman' which is beginning to put me off the show.

Its like this featurette focuses on the Penguin, partially because he's the best character in the show, but mostly because the others are mediocre when compared to him.

I wanted to make a video to sum up this show featuring one guy telling a story and a second extremely annoying guy constantly interrupting the first guy by shouting out things like "holy shit that will someday be Poison Ivy!" And "Holy shit look, this show just hinted at Joker!" And so on until you can't even hear the guy telling the story anymore.

That pretty much sums up why this show is awful and I hate it.

Penguins character is awesome. I can't get my girl to watch any comic book shows other than Gotham and The Walking Dead. I do agree that charcaters like The Riddler, Harvey Dent andBullock are older than they should be, but THAT is my only issue with the show

The one thing that continues to bother me, is you can never tell what era this takes place in. The cops are in the 70's the crime families are in the 60's the city is int the 80's and everyone has a cell phone. And the female characters are wearing modern fashions. I don't know if this is deliberate or not but either way it bugs me every time I watch it.

I think the attempt was to embody each version of the Gotham that has been seen in the original Batman films. Thats why we get so many varying types. The issue is its done poorly resulting in too many contradictions and conflicting styles.

I only watched the first episode of this on a whim, reasoning that it was bound to be shit - I mean, wtf?

But I have to say, the show won me over.

Contrary to what others are saying above, I actually love the ambiguity re. the time it's set in. e.g. the police station is almost gothic 20s/30s, and some of the CGI skylines reflect that, but other aspects are modern and up to date. That un-pinned-down nature of the mise en scene is actually quite refreshing to me.

The acting's good all round, with the biggest surprise being young Bruce Wayne (who you'd think would be the worst, most embarrassing part of the whole show - turns out he's a great wee actor, who portrays the first shoots of the serious Batman of the future really well).

If you're in any doubt about this, don't listen to the nay sayers. I think the show does bring out strong love/hate feelings, but you just might be amongst the demographic that loves it.

You have to look at this show as an original interpretation, like earth one. Although i am not a fan of the show introducing so many major villains this early its not the end of the world if they are a little older then Bruce. However it would be best if they focused strictly on the crime families and did away with the villain of the week, other wise this show is fairly entertaining. it would be great if the made use of some time jumps between seasons, between season 2 and 3 jump a few years bringing in an older Bruce, then another jump even further down the line that would introduce batman for season 5

I'm glad you are a faceless internet random whose opinion no one cares about, because if you were someone with any kind of power, you would definately make this world a worse place. so much hate in this one I sense.

oh, since I never saw anyone mention it, I should add that the actress playing Selina Kyle is AWFUL...every scene she is in she ruins....not only is she a bad actress and have an annoying voice, but her eyes are so far apart that it freaks me the hell out...she looks like a fish...it is creepy as hell
