Mr Freeze is just a man trying to cure his dying wife.

But the Gotham writers wouldn't understand good writing.

At this rate there won't be a Batman. Gotham must be corrupt not to send its freakish villains out of state. These bad guys will have been around for 15-20 years! Either Gordon is atrociously bad at his job (seems like it), or Gotham simply mistakes Arkham Asylum for an actual jail. And I have an issue with the sustained dark, corrupt path Gordon is heading down. I thought he was one of the pure cops.

Enjoyed tonight, as I have all season, and I just put my finger on one of the main reasons as to why I find this season much better than last... NO JADA PINKETT, celebrate!!!

But... @drkinsolving , as a bats fan, but with only an average comic book knowledge of the history (at best), I always found Gordon to be very square and "by the book". Now he's "offing" people le and right. Are they taking severe liberties with his character? Looks like it.

Why is it that people can't seem to grasp the concept that this is supposed to be a multiverse, and not a direct adaptation of the comics? Is that really that difficult to understand?

Tonight's episode was okay. Just glad to finally be rid of Galavan and the dull Order of St. Dumas. Hope the back half has a better arc planned.

@SAMURAI36, it's sad isn't it? People can't understand that not everything has to be a literal translation from the comics.

@xcan

They are definitely taking liberties with the show, this is a full on "Elseworlds" story for me.... Gordon has killed in the comics but for the most part, he's definitely "By The Book" without a doubt....

But, after seeing Gordon endure the events of The Killing Joke and others, seeing Gordon kicking ass and being a bad ass on screen is awesome for me.... Gordon is such a cool character, I see this version as a mix of the Year One interpretation and Batman Eternal along with many others.... Their doing a great job, imo

@LEVITIKUZ

Did you read the interview about Freeze on Gotham? I wish it was posted on here....

"Victor has one central intimate human connection, and that’s with his wife. There’s something really, really interesting and vulnerable and difficult about that. Of course, that is threatened by her illness. In some of the research I did on the character as he has evolved in the comic book, he has a more tenuous connection with humanity and his own humanity, and she’s it. He is applying all his talents and skills and energies to maintaining that."

Awesome episode, this season has been awesome

@jp688

It's an Elseworlds story.... When Bruce is older, Batman will have even more "foes" because Gotham will keep creating more ruthless villains and adversaries for him to take down

And I doubt Bruce will ever suit up on the show, that's not what the show is about, it's about the GCPD and Gordon and Gotham, an alternative take on the Mythos, in which a lot of Batman's rogues exist in Gotham while Bruce Wayne is still too young to don the cape and cowl....

Lol. People's problems with this show don't lie with the way it adapts the source material. I'm all for a good "What If" or "Elseworlds" story. As are most fans. It's the awful execution, terribly inconsistent tone, and supreme lack of subtlety in the writing and the characters that makes this show so bad. I have no issue with deviations from the comics. That's reality with any adaptation of a comic. But the fact is, this show feels the need to shove everything in your face, and it's just too much for me.

@MattBellissimo

"But the fact is, this show feels the need to shove everything in your face"

Haha, ^ this is exactly why I love the show and this season

It actually makes going back and reading the comics even more enjoyable for me because it opens up different sides of the characters that you never thought of before, by placing them in situations that you've never seen them in....

That's what I love about "Elseworld" stories too, it gives you a different perspective and opens up your mind

I'd love to see a Bruce Timm style Mr. Freeze in live action

@DrKinsolving

And if you enjoy it, all the power to ya, bud.

I just don't like how they've presented this particular version. It's like they need to beat you over the head with a stick saying "Look, it's the Riddler! Get it?? He's going to be the Riddler!! See!? He's drinking out of a mug with a QUESTION MARK ON IT! Because he's going to be the Riddler!!!"

Between that and the inconsistencies in the tone of the show just make it a no go for me. That's not to say it's all bad...Robin Lord Taylor is a very charismatic presence without going over the top.
DrKinsolving
DrKinsolving - 12/1/2015, 5:27 AM
@MattBellissimo

True, see, what your saying though.... "The Riddler's cup?" and that stuff, it comes off like you've only watched the first season or a few episodes, because not every episode, or even one full episode is like that

The Riddler and Penguin arcs have been awesome, and we've never seen The Riddler on screen like this, it really explores his characterization a lot more than, "Oh, look it's a Riddler cup, DOH" it's a lot better than that

And, Gotham never defined a tone. So, they can't really be inconsistent, imo. Because, the purpose of the show is to use the fictitious Gotham city to serve the characters and the story. Gotham never defined itself as being based in realism.... etc
DrKinsolving
DrKinsolving - 12/1/2015, 5:30 AM
This season is a lot better....

I can understand complaints about the first season a lot more
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 12/1/2015, 5:49 AM
@DrKinsolving

Not defining a tone IS being inconsistent. It just goes from super cheesy to super serious in the span of an hour. I'm not saying it has to be ALL DARK or ALL CAMPY all the time, but sticking with a tone will give the show some sense of consistency rather than jumping all over the place.

The Riddler cup was just a small example...there's been a lot more than that with Penguin, Jerome...the list goes on. I'm not looking for realism, I'm just looking for well written, consistent television. For me, Gotham doesn't hit that mark.
DrKinsolving
DrKinsolving - 12/1/2015, 5:57 AM
@MattBellissimo

If you don't like it, you don't like it, that's all good, ha

But, the show isn't trying to be consistent, that's kind of the point....

It's about exploring the characters and the city, and creating different scenarios, so why wouldn't the Riddler have a mug with a question mark on it? Why wouldn't Penguin have a limp and an Umbrella?

I don't know if you've read the comics about Azrael, and The Order of St Dumas, but I love that their exploring all of that stuff, plus we get to see characters like Silver St Cloud, etc, characters that we've never really seen developed on screen before

To each his own man, I'm enjoying the [frick] out of this show, haha, especially this season

Clearly a lot of people are digging it, or it woulda been cancelled by now.

Lol clearly we can agree to disagree, but I certainly respect your opinion. I agree that when it comes to certain things, it's cool for them to delve into the lesser known stuff. I think this show has been held back from its true potential due to WB and DC's inexplicable lack of faith in the audience to differentiate between their film and television divisions.
DrKinsolving
DrKinsolving - 12/1/2015, 6:13 AM
@MattBellissimo

Haha, definitely, I respect your opinion too, agree to disagree.

I'm actually loving what WB is doing though, and I hope that they keep the films and the Tv shows separate.... it gives the directors and writers of the big screen DCEU more freedom.... The MCU rocks, but I'm getting burnt out on the whole "everything is connected" thing.... I like that DC is going to be different, especially in that aspect

As far as Batman, I can understand why they don't want him on the small screen.... In the same way that other studios don't place their major characters on the small screen, they deserve the big screen treatment

Also, WB is giving us a big screen Flash and a small screen Flash, and Green Arrow will most likely make it to the big screen eventually too.... etc

I'm looking forward to the big screen Flash a lot more though, hopefully we get a cameo in Batman v Superman

How old is Bruce in the show? Like 12? How old are Penguin and Riddler? Like 20s? So by the time Bruce would be Batman the ages would track. Selina's the same age as Bruce, Ivy too, Dent is a young ADA in his 20s, Doctor Strange and Mr Freeze were both older than Batman, Crane was a young kid, Black Mask we didn't really see... Which characters are gonna be really out of age range for Bruce by the time he's Batman?

...@Leivikutz I feel you...I mean the show, being an Elseworld or whatever is kinda fun, but, men, it feels crowded sometimes...& like rushed stories...I don't know, I enjoy it, but...I hope Bruce gets out to start his training, Mazouz delivered some good insight on B. Wayne last ep, though...

I 100% see where you are coming from. However, I think the clip was just a glimpse into the future of the series. I don't think Victor Fries is Mr. Freeze yet.

http://zap2it.com/2015/10/gotham-season-2-nora-fries-dr-freeze-kristen-hager/

The showrunners already confirmed that we will get to see Victor Fries trying to save his wife and we will even get to meet Nora Fries as a character before she is frozen. She will be played by Kristen Hager.

Here's the show's official description:

"As her condition worsens and her husband becomes more desperate to save her life, Nora must make the ultimate choice: play the willing participant in Victor’s mad plan or sacrifice herself to stop the monster inside of him."
