James Gunn has taken to Threads to share updates on the second season of Peacemaker, and some follow-up questions from fans have led to a few intriguing revelations.
Gunn initially addressed Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) mentioning that filming is set to begin this summer, confirming that he does indeed plan to shoot season 2 of Peacemaker and Superman at the same time.
"The source is kind of iffy but this is true," Gunn began. "John Cena shared this on Howard Stern last week. To answer your follow-up questions: yes, we’ll be shooting Superman & Peacemaker simultaneously; yes, I’ve written all the episodes; but, no, in the interest of getting the show out there I won’t be able to direct them all (only some); & yes, Waller’s still happening & Jeremy & Christal are hard at work writing great stuff, but the schedule was impacted by the strikes so it’ll come after Peacemaker."
When Gunn took the job as co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, it seemed pretty obvious that Peacemaker season 2 was going to be part of the new DCU, and while this is the case, the first season is not!
We're not certain why (the Justice League showing up in the S1 finale likely has something to do with it), but, as far as we know, this is the first time two seasons of the same series will exist in different continuities.
Gunn also revealed that Peacemaker season 2 will be set after the events of Superman, and the reboot will "have an impact" on the Max series. Does this mean we can expect to see some Peacemaker characters show up in Superman? Not necessarily, but that's what post-credits scenes are for, after all!

"Peacemaker explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn's 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!"
The Peacemaker season one cast includes John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick. Gunn wrote all eight episodes and also directed five of them, starting with the pilot. Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Miller are the series' executive producers. Co-executive producer John Cena and consulting producer Stacy Littlejohn are also involved in the production of the show.
