SUPERMAN & LOIS: A New DC Hero Is Revealed In The Promo For Season 1, Episode 8; "Holding the Wrench"

While Clark and Lois are both certain that this world's Superman won't turn on humanity, "Luthor" still isn't particularly convinced and delivers an ominous message that could have dire consequences.

Well, that was one heckuva twist.

Spoiler alert!

Tonight's installment of Superman and Lois finally revealed more about Captain Luthor's (Wolé Parks) mysterious past, and as it turns out, he's actually no Luthor at all.

His real name is John Henry Irons, a.k.a. Steel.

Speaking with TV Line, Parks touched on the big reveal, “When they told me I was going to be playing John Henry Irons, I was overwhelmed, a little emotional. I remember growing up with him, but it’s not just me anymore. There are other kids who grew up with this [character], and there are kids growing up now who will know a different version of it. The responsibility is crazy. This is by far my most important role, if I want to phrase it that way, and I don’t take that lightly.

Steel is an established DC Comics character, initially making his debut as a potential Superman replacement after Clark's apparent demise at the hands of Doomsday in "The Death of Superman" storyline. He later became one of Supes' greatest allies, but it looks like this version is still a ways away from trusting the Last Son of Krypton.

Check out the new promo for season one, episode eight, titled "Holding the Wrench," below:

Wonder, when the time comes to use an actual Lex, will they go with Jon Cryer or get a new actor.

Not sure Cryer’s Lex would fit the tone

When he said he was the Man of Steel and having his daughter named Nat(even though that's his brother's kid) while building the suit, that light bulb went off foe me before the actual reveal. Cool twist though.

I really really really hope this Master Chief armor turns into Steel's armor by the end of the season and he is upped to the main cast.

Yet to watch this episode, the entire CWverse hit Prime Video yesterday with weekly episodes going forward in India, I hope they get Superman & Lois as well. Would be nice to be able to watch the show officially.

Pretty solid red herring, it's got to be said. Irons has always been a character that fell a little flat for me (which worked when he was the most normal and likable of the four Supermen), but this twist certainly gives him an edge.

Other than that, I'm afraid the show is kind of dragging week to week. Too many balls in the air (watching Jordan going through the hardest time since getting his powers and nobody really there for him feels off).

The domestic stuff was the stronger side of the show, but this feels like we're leaning over into well-worn Berlanti material now. "There's an alternate reality mystery of evil superheroes that we won't find out the full context of until it's almost the season finale and it turns out it's actually related to that shady business dude" is the plot of roughly half of these shows' season arcs.

@Lucias - When someone says something that may not be literally the case, you may want to consider that they might be making their point with a bit of playful hyperbole.

Dope episode. I loved the reveal of Lex Luthor really being John Henry Irons, a.k.a. Steel. Steel fan since 1995.

Now that's how you do a good reveal. David Ramsey (Diggle) did an awesome job with this episode. Dude has come a long way since his Dexter days.

I'm just so glad to see live-action Superman done right since what seems like ages.
Its also funny to me that Steel in this show had a much, much better plan against Superman that [frick]ing Batman did in Batpunisher v Snyderman

@SnideCut - Honestly, even Kilgrave from episode 3 had a better plan (that didn’t require Kryptonite).

WHAAAAT! I've been waiting for a live action Steel for SO long and this show totally delivered on the reveal. I was totally on board with a Black Lex since I grew up watching the animated series from the 90s but this was way better than I could've imagined happening.

I had the biggest smile on my face when he called the hammer to him.
