THE FLASH Season 7 Is The Last On Grant Gustin's Contract And Pandemic Interrupted Season 8 & 9 Talks

The Flash's Grant Gustin has made a startling revelation by confirming that his current contract with The CW expires with season 7, and talks for a season 8 and 9 return have been halted by the pandemic!

The Flash's sixth season is ending prematurely with its nineteenth episode, and star Grant Gustin's future as the Scarlet Speedster could be in doubt thanks to the coronavirus (COIVD-19) pandemic. A seventh season was confirmed back in January, and while the actor is contracted for that, talks for a season 8 and 9 return have stalled.

His current contract includes season 7, but "The conversations actually had started already for adding a potential eighth and ninth [season], but then this pandemic happened, and everything has stopped," the actor explains.

"We don’t know when we’re back, and I don’t know when we’re going to continue the renegotiation talks," the actor confirmed, both in regards to potentially shooting the rest of season 6 and returning to the table to talk seasons 8 and 9. Unfortunately, it sounds like Gustin is anxious to be able to start exploring other options with his career that The Flash currently stops him pursuing.

"I had faith really early on that the show would be on for a while. There are plenty of things I feel I missed out on. The Flash has been so amazing, but we’re six years in now and the past four [summer] hiatuses I have had a project that has fallen through because of Flash. There are a lot of opportunities that have gone away because of schedule conflicts. You just can’t have everything."

Gustin's time as the Fastest Man Alive ending would be a disappointment, but Warner Bros. could be on board with that as Flashpoint is set for a 2022 release. The Flash's season 6 "finale" airs on May 12th.

That really sucks. I think some of the younger, more aggressive actors nowadays seek out superhero TV/film jobs because it's guaranteed work. Added bonus if it's a well received show and they can lobby that into getting some other projects of theirs financed. But there's very little benefit if he isn't able to pursue other projects outside of The Flash.

So many of the MCU and DC film actors have been able to leverage their superhero roles to pursue tons of other projects. Shame he's having difficulty doing the same.

Minus the Pandemic, he's done after Season 7. Right?

If Grant is leaving, you know they could get Wally West to replace Barry Allen like in the comics.

He should move up to higher quality stuff like porn or YouTube fan films.

That's part of the reason I don't like 40-min 24 ep seasons. They take up too much of actors peoples schedules, Gustin is good & having other projects to stretch his acting muscles would lead to a better Flash performance in the long run, & more importantly for me, falling behind by a season seems insurmountable when you have very little spare time to catch up (hence why I dropped Flash & Arrow).

Honestly, I hope he does an extra season or half-season so Wally can move up and take the mantle afterwards. This show could go on forever if they switch to Wally & then to Bart, then to Wally's daughter. Regenerate it like Doctor Who, every 4 or 5 years, bring in a new Stars team, new villains. Retire Doctor Zoom and bring on Earth 1 Zoom Reverse Flash as the recurring big villain (with his time slowing powers rather than just speed), and keep going with every Flash's Reverse Flash.

I see it possible that they could extend it to an 8th and 9th Season since Eric Wallace has breathed in a new energy into the show even before the pre-Crisis episodes and now we're still basking in during this post-Crisis picture with the Black Hole arc. After a potentially 9th Season, a final 10th to wrap it all up around 2024 is logical and also fair to the cast.

There are still some things from the comics along with characters that I hope they can introduce.

But I also see from where Grant was coming from, he already was casted for a indie movie before the pandemic hit us all, so that is something else in his schedule that is unfortunately delayed.
