On the heels of today's news that Skull Island and Tomb Raider anime series are in the works for Netflix, THR reports that a Game of Thrones animated show is also in development for the HBO Max streaming service.
It sounds like things are only in the very early stages, and the trade stresses that there's always a possibility that the series never sees the light of day. Writers are currently being met with, but no deals have been made. We have no idea which characters or era in Westeros history the spinoff would focus on, but it's being planned as an "adult-leaning project, which would be similar in tone to HBO's Emmy-winning flagship."
Aside from the upcoming House of the Dragon and Tales of Dunk and Egg (which we heard about earlier this week), the network reportedly has ideas for several other Game of Thrones prequel shows kicking around, one of which is said to focus on Robert Baratheon's rebellion.
The untitled pilot starring Naomi Watts ended up falling by the wayside, however, so there's no guarantee that any of these other projects will come to fruition.
