Watchmen Comic-Con Footage

Watchmen Comic-Con Footage

Guess what appeared on iTunes yesterday? Time's up! The 3 minute Watchmen teaser that Zack put together for the San Diego Comic-Con 2008. It was a bitch to download and transfer over, but we figured that those who didn't get to the con and don't have an iTunes account would appreciate our efforts...

Even after all the talk of how the ending will be different from the book, I still get a thrill every time I see a new preview or teaser. I know this isn't really 'new' but I wasn't at Comic Con this year. I really believe it's gonna be the best movie to hit theaters next year, but that doesn't mean part of me is worried about how it's gonna play out. I understand some of the changes. One being that they call themselves Watchmen, ok, for those who aren't familiar with the story. Not sure if too many folks would buy the Crimebusters bit anyway. I guess for everything that looks amazing about the film, part of me is saying "There's no way it's gonna be as good as it seems. Someone always F's up an Allen Moore story."

Another thing that scares me....First it was Spiderman 2. At one point, IMO, the best comic book movie ever made. Then Ironman took it's place. The Dark Knight now sits on top of the throne. How far will the Spirit get? The bar keeps getting raised for these movies and I'm wondering how far they can go until they reach the top? I actually expect Watchmen to hurdle the Dark Knight. But after watching that movie again, I ask myself how? To me that movie was almost perfect. And now every new movie with a comic backdrop will try to beat out the others for the top spot, most won't get that far, but I feel many will be better than say if they were released three years ago. Since Watchmen is "the best comic/graphic novel ever written" it should also be the best movie for that genre as well. It deserves no less. And that's why I have doubt swirling in my stomach.

Slo-mo, slo-mo everywhere!!!! Apparently he's using that slo-mo coupon he got after his 300 work.

Is it just me or does Moloch look healthy? Oddly enough I always pictured him just as skin and bones (he does have terminal cancer).

No no no, the comedian has a picture of Laurie in his room????

I also see Jon with some sort of skin disease? I always pictured him to be blue and flawless, eerily flawless, not with veins and patches of different blue all over his skin.

Anyway, I've discussed the holes in the new ending, how I think Snyder does not have the experience necessary to portray the different aspects in Moore's story, just wanted to give a lighter note on things.

Treat Jon's skin disease, put the Moloch actor on a diet, and put a fictional alien attack on New York by some sort of squidlike monster at the end, and I'll probably love it, oh and don't dare leave Veidt stranded (as I read somewhere), he has to get away with it (even if there's a squid and he's left stranded I'll hate the whole thing).

Well, IMO, Spirit will get as far as Sin City got. It won't touch TDK. Watchmen on the other hand... has potential. But BATMAN, unlike Punisher,Spirit and Watchmen has always been known especially because it has been everywhere from comics to tv to movies throughout the ages. It is one of the only "non-comicbook-fan" favorites of all time. I think that the only character that has a slight chance of either making equal amounts of money if not to surpass Batman is Superman. But they're not gonna be able to do it if they don't focus on a decent script for the first time in his existance. You can't have the most powerfull superhero of all time "not facing" the most powerfull villain of all time but actually have "high difficulties" at dealing with a mortal man that is just simply "smarter" than he is. It's been done and redone and we're sick of it. We're not gonna pay twice to see a 5th remake of the same shtick here. Other than that, i really don't see anything getting the bat off the throne!

Yeah, next thing we'll know is that the Comedian never raped the Silk Specter, she actually liked it as a consenting adult...in slow-mo no less. The nerve... LOL

But i dunno... mabe most of the slo-mo is just for the trailers... it's a slight possibility... i guess.

look snyder uses alot of slow mo. its his style. okay? can we move on now?..or are people going to be surprised by another bit of slow motion that pops up on the internet!

this looks amazing. this is my favourite trailer so far, they should have released this for theaters..its so much more atmospheric than the others.

Your so right ROAR, this is the best trailer so far. This one gives us more of the actuall storyline. Can't wait to see it.

You see Rorscharch there can be a trailer that entices storywise and not just shows how cool the special effects will be (although this one relies heavily on that, I accept that the whole movie will have a huge amount of CGI and special effects, so it is inevitable to show that in the trailers).

The slo-mo is sort of a joke (did you see the South Park episode in which they mock 300?)just like Snyder's storyboarding skills, I just love to laugh about it and if given the chance, I will laugh it off. Makes the pain of a squidless ending more bearable.

Just like Shaman mocks me for the consenting Silk Spectre and the Comedian as a loving father.

I don't understand why people are having a problem with the slo-mo. It's the most idiotic argument and complaint EVER! I just recently watched The Wild Bunch, an older classic western directed by Sam Peckinpah, and tons of the gun fight battles had slo-mo all over the place. It allows you to see vividly the action and detail. Further more, it makes even more sense in a comic book movie, SPECIFICALLY THIS ONE, where mimicking the actual panels of art is an intentional act to bring to life the level of detail seen in the actual graphic novel. Zack Snyder said if he could make a 2.5 hour commercial for the graphic novel (ie, this movie) he'd be happy with that. To make people aware of the awesomeness of the book itself! The slo-mo is perfect for this film, and will only enhance the amazing visuals we will all see.

sithenor - 12/10/2008, 10:20 AM
I liked it anyway. No problems with slow mo. Our expectations are very high and sure Snyder's gonna make us happy -except the alternate ending, and umm skin-diseased-Jon (NoobMike is right). Whatever!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 12/10/2008, 11:10 AM
the trailer doesnt suggest hes a loving father, merely that he is aware that spectre is his daughter and harbours regret over their relationship (or lack of one)..which is shown in the comic by his sorrowful expression when she rebukes him. the comic also states that silk spectre 1 did consent to sex with the comedian..though obviously not during the attempted rape.

i did see that south park ep and thought it was hilarious! i spose he is ripe for parody, but i agree with itsnotaschooner, i really like the slo mo..in small doses! which snyder assures us, despite alot of it in the trailers, wont be overdone in the movie

I can onyl say so many times how absolutely amazing this movie is going to be.It looks completely and utterly kick ass. It will blow ALL previous comic book movies out of the water...except TDK. I don't believe that's going to happen anytime soon. I honeslty don't believe Superman or even another great Batman film could top that in terms of style, cohesion, story, actors, action, and money made. Somehow, I don't believe that's even possible. But back to subject, again, this is going to ROOOOOOOCK!
CrookedJaw
CrookedJaw - 12/10/2008, 11:29 AM
awesome, freakin awesome...I'm still excited for this movie, and have full faith that it'll be done well. And redrum, I"m sure they put that in the trailer (calling themselves watchmen) just because. Usually things that are in the trailer aren't necessarily true in the movie, ya know? But I guess we'll have to wait and see. As mentioned before, I still think this movie will kick all sorts of ass

NoobMike - 12/10/2008, 3:15 PM
Lol, rorscharch, don't take everything I write here so seriously. That last comment I made was a build up to Shamans consensual sex in slo-mo joke, I know the comedian is not a loving a father (or at least does not fit the stereotype of one).

I still find that 300 uses more slo-mo than it should have had, which makes me uneasy regarding the slo-mo he'll use in this one, especially since he is cuting 8 minutes of the movie... and didn't put the squid to have more character development... well if the character development is going to be in slo-mo I'd rather go to my dentist for a root canal. As I said, all of the statements I have written here are lighter than my previous ones and shouldn't be taken so seriously, if you want to know the real problems I have with this movie, just go read them in previous watchmen news.

Now just look at the Watchmen mobile game and convince me that it's not a total disgrace and extremely disrespectful. Sometimes I feel as if it is all just a practical joke.

I have created the Fansite Book of Oa. If you're interested in perusing, please do so. I have 2 articles to start, plus a few i've collected from the main site. It's all about GL and the GL Corps, if you're interested. There is of course, a contact me link if you have any input or would like to see anything in particular on that page. It's still in the works obviously since i created it only a couple hours ago. But, so far so good. See ya there!!!

see i thought you thought that the trailer was suggesting that snyder was going to portray him as a loving father...get me? anyway as for the game and stuff, look this happens. it happens with every movie of this type nowadays..i dont like it but just because watchmen is as revered as it is..aint gonna stop that marketing machine!

The Watchmen video game won't be like all the other games that (badly) mimic the storyline of their movie counterparts(The only good one being James Bond- Golden Eye). The game instead takes place before the events of Watchmen, like 13 years. Nite Owl and Rorschach go hunting for the Underboss. In the book Rorschach mentions this to Nite Owl, "remember the goodtimes, like when we went after the Underboss" or something along those lines. So this game is pretty much on it's own story-wise. Because nothing else is really known about the details and what happened. Plus Gibbons (the co-creator/author of Watchmen) was also involved with the script so it should do better than other 'movie games'.

I really think poor Doc Manhattan has to see a dermatologist, that skin condition must really itch.

redrum, I'm not talking about the console game I haven't seen or read anything of it yet, just look up on the related news, for the game I'm talking about, it's a sidescrolling fighter game with a "Watchmen feel" slapped over it. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/watchmen/news/?a=5368&t=New_Watchmen_Mobile_Game_Screenshots

I just find it funny, I'd love it if the DVD had some "extras" of WB memos regarding the merchandising, they probably would be just like Veidts (although Veidt had a little more respect). Ok so far I have to laugh at the following: no squid, Snyder's slo-mo syndrome, poor Jon and his skin condition, the comedian's fatherly love (in slo-mo no less), Snyder's storyboarding "skills", the lovely mobile game, the self watchmen references, Dan using a diet that was destined for Moloch (Dan looks extremely fit whereas Moloch looks healthy). Now if they do give them superpowers this would be a field day.

Anyone else find that Dollar Bill's death was more powerful as a story than as a visual?

Hell I really hope they have to delay the release, that will give me so much more material to laugh at.

Oh and CMKOFAN, do yourself a favor and read the comic if not for the squid, for "Tales of The Black Freighter".

You mean like the squid ending? LOL

Well i'm glad we can have fun and share a laugh or two on this. Nothing else we can do about it till it actually comes out. So far, everybody's right! This will be a great adaptation with amazing action and special effects all while being a discrace to the original in slow-mo... Slo-mo-mo... Slo-mo-mo-mo.

I had finaly DLed the series last week and finished reading it in like 2 days. Greatest story I've ever read. I'm so much more excited to see this after reading that. About the squid...I am more concerned about how they get every nation on the same side, if thats what his plan still is... the "squid" is actually only in like 6 boxes, so its not that important to the story, or even to me. I'm more concerned about them changing the fact that it was an alien attack that the earth is going to begin rallying against...
