Over at firstshowing.net, they are reporting(via a reliable source at Collider) that Zack Snyder has confirmed that "Watchmen: Directors Cut" will indeed be officially hitting theaters on July 17th, the weekend before Comic-Con. He confirmed that it will only show for one weekend in one theater in only Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis, and New York City.

Snyder said that they've made an extra poster to promote this re-release and will even be advertising it. As has been reported previously, there is at least an extra 25 minutes of footage, though I'm sure we'll get exact numbers closer to July 17th.

This is great news(for those of you living in those areas anyway), I am very exited to see the extra footage. As much as i loved the movie there are parts from the comic i wished they would have kept in, so im looking forward to seeing them, as well as a better paced movie overall.

I'd love to see it in the theatre, a shame it won't be coming to Boston.

Shit! I'm just leaving LA tonight! Why can't we get anything like this in Georgia? All we get is dynamic speakers(MLK) and Southern Rock singers(Allman Bros.)

meh, I don't know if a longer cut will be better. Don't get me wrong, it was a visually stunning movie, and if you've read the book it was a good watch, but for everyone who hasn't read the book it wasn't that great of an experience. There was just to much to fit into that movie and because of that I think character development was lost. For the comic reader it was fine because our minds could fill in the gaps but to an outsider it was confusing. I'm still grateful it was finally made though, but I think it falls short of the best adaptation ever. In my mind that still goes to sin city, that movie was an almost word for word translation and it still didn't lack in plot or development.
