What is Skye? Or, WHO is she really?

Since Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. began, it has certainly improved over time. The characters have been thoroughly fleshed out through the first half of the season. We have learned more about characters their backstories, where they came from, their love interests, and much more. In particular, Skye has been shown to be a great hacker who was left abandoned and grew up as an orphan who went from one home to the next. In episode ten “The Bridge”, we get insight to what happened regarding Skye’s origin. From this episode discovered that Skye was found by S.H.I.E.L.D. in Hunan China and she was declared a 0-8-4 (Object of unknown origin). This means that she was not from earth and more importantly not human. This editorial is my theory on what and who Skye really is. Before I go into what she is, I will list the things that she cannot be and most likely is not. Some of these have been speculated and can help determine who she really is.

A Mutant

The term “Mutant” and anything involving them or the X-Men cannot be used because the rights for these characters are owned by 20th century Fox. However, we know that some rights can be shared by both studios (Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver being one of them). The origins of these characters by under any circumstances cannot be referred to as a mutant or any rights that 20th Century Fox owns.

A Kree

Personally, I do not believe Skye is a Kree because they would not have their opposing force the Skrulls to use in the future because they are related to The Fantastic Four (Owned by 20th Century Fox). They do not have a great deal to work with, although they could tie it into “Guardians of the Galaxy”, although it is unlikely. Despite the fact they seem like are a more human like candidate for what she could be, it seems unlikely. If she were an alien, they would be able to easily detect it from the cosmic energy and appearance.  If that were the case, she would be a type of alien species that is identical to humans or have shape shifting abilities.

An Asgardian

More of an obvious point, skye could not be an Asgardian because she has the anatomy of a human and is mortal. She possesses no super natural powers or abilities. In addition, if Skye were an Asgardian in the episode “The Well”, (The tie in to Thor: The Dark World) the Asgardian would have noticed that she is from Asgardian.

Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman)

After we figured out that Skye was from an unknown origin, it has been speculated that she is Jessica Drew (A.K.A. Spider Woman). The theories for this have been getting some buzz on the internet. I doubt it is her because her origin is unknown. Even if she were to be genetically engineered by Hydra, she would still be from Earth. As well, the rights for anything related to Spiderman belong to Sony. This could be similar to the situation with sharing the rights to specific characters like Scarlet Witch and Quick Silver, but Spider Woman is too similar to Spider Man in their powers and she actually has Peter Parker’s DNA (The Ultimate Universe Spider Woman).

Skye is really…

With all of those possibilities out of the way, what else could Skye be? She could be something that is connected into one of the earlier Marvel Studio films like “The Avengers”, or maybe be something introduced in the future films. We have actually have got a relation to who she really is in the Avengers. Do you remember all the people in the theatre after the end credits scene saying “Who is that purple guy?” and “No way, its Hell Boy!” Well, it’s not hell boy it is Thanos. I believe Skye is the female companion to the mad titan himself. Skye is Lady Death.

Skye being Lady Death seems farfetched and crazy but it makes sense. She was described to be a 0-8-4 and has no parents. If you go back to the episode “The Bridge” the line that was said that many people probably disregarded was “Wherever she goes, death follows”. This is not the only line that has evidence of this. In the end credits scene of the Avengers, Thanos does not say much, but one quote gives some insight to my theory “To challenge them, is to court death.” To court death? To court someone is to be involved romantically with someone, for Thanos, this someone is the female embodiment of death. Thanos is in love with her and in the comics, murders millions of beings just for her love. This could be another reason behind the invasion in New York that caused the death and destruction, which was out of his lust for her.

How I see it is, Lady Death had a reason to hide and got placed into a human body. She somehow disguised into one, and then erased all memory of her to protect herself. Skye being death makes sense; Thanos needs a reason to go to earth besides the infinity stones. What other reason would he need other than to get his companion? What I believe Marvel Studios will do if my theory is correct is they will have Skye have the soul infinity stone. This would be the last infinity stone Thanos would need to complete the Infinity Gauntlet because it would give him the chance to get his lover, as well it would be the final step before confronting in the big battle against the Marvel Universe.

I hope you enjoyed this editorial on my theory of who Skye is. So, what do you guys think? Who or what do you think Skye is? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Maybe she's the new Ms. Marvel?

I disagree. Death can't "die" and Skye almost died after being shot. She would've died if she didnt get the GH

She's not gonna be anyone "big" they won't wanna crossover into the MCU from AoS since not many people are watching it.

But maybe she's a Skrull?

Sony doesn't have the rights to Spider woman.

They just said in a recent interview that the rights to the Skrulls are shared just like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

So........you could be wrong. Skye could be Jessica Drew, or a disguised Skrull. I highly doubt a Skrull though. Could be a sleeper agent like Secret Invasion. I doubt it though thats just my opinion.

Now Death.......entirely a possibility. Good theory.

The REAL question is.......did Coulson know what was in that tube? Cause he may know exactly whats in there. You may of thought he was trying to stop them from giving Skye the formula to protect her from unknown harm......but what if he knows what it is and was trying to protect her from THAT! Watch the scene again. His body language is so hard to read cause hes in shock. Maybe cause now he knows whats inside his and Skyes blood....and hes afraid.

Not Jessica Drew. She's an inhuman. That's it. Feige wanted to make the film awhile back. In iM3 Maya Hansen found the spot in the brain destined for an upgrade. The kree found them centuries ago in comic lore and since there are kree in the Mcu they probably found it too. We know about the Maximoff twins. We know there are kree. We know we are destined for greatness...

Sounds like an inhuman.
The Mahr Vel consciousness thing might be plausible.

I know exactly who she is and its going to blow your mind when you figure it out. People have had many great ideas of who she could be but none of you are coming close. Its actually very simple and put right in your face when you think about it. The guy in the tube is in fact a Kree that landed after Peter Quill was kidnapped. Agent Coulson knows this and is worried about what the serum derived from him could do to our girl. I will tell you who she is and then explain briefly why. She happens to be (drum roll please…) an original character named Skye who has no affiliation to any larger race (Kree, Inhumans, Mutants etc). The reason for this is that they want full creative license to do what they want with the character just like Ward, Fitz, Simmons, and May. Not everything has to be attached to the 616 and I like it more this way. It adds quite a bit of mystery that CBMs and shows sorely lack.

I think if she's anything, it's inhuman. And that's all I got. That is my only gripe I have with AOS is that it has such an uninteresting cast especially for Marvel. It's hard for me to care in any regards b/c of this lame cast. The only interesting ones are May and Coulson. Everybody is.....yeah. Even their guest cast is more appealing, J. Richards, Bill Paxton, Britt, and girl playing Lorelei. The one thing this show has going for it is its strongest asset of being tied to the MCU. That's what keeps me watching no doubt.

She could simply be a mutant, as in, somebody who is born with powers and then develops them later in life. As a way to get people to know these people exist before we see SW and QS in AOU

SKYE IS SPIDERWOMAN! She was injected by the GH in the last episode and that could be what gives her powers, like spiderwoman.

And how at the beginning of the show she said that she erased her someon else's life like she was going to erase Michael Peterson's life and give him a new one. The one she originally erased was her own, and her original name was Jessica Drew.

Interesting theory, but I agree with CherryBomb. They aren't going to want to go with anyone big. And if she was Death, wouldn't either more people be dying, or non at all due to her lack of not traveling around letting people die?
sikwon

@gliderman... In the 1st episode, the FIRST EPISODE. ..Mike Peterson looks at the camera, right at the camera and says "THIS IS AN ORIGIN STORY". Make no mistake, this is a plan from the beginning. It's the same thing with Skye. Regardless of who she is they are not making this up on the fly. They have made adjustments but there are no huge plot holes, nothing that is overly out of place or confusing. They didn't disregard events from past episodes. It's been a steady progression in the same direction. I also think that marvel would have zero problem adding one of these characters to the larger movie universe. Any of the Netflix characters will not only be options to appear in a movie but in the case of Luke Cage and Daredevil it's probably guaranteed. To say that season 1 and 2 can't be an origin story for whoever Skye turns out to be is short sited. For good or bad the one thing marvel has proven is they are not short sited.

Death would be awesome but I see no reason to go into Thanos as the harbinger of death and his infatuation with her. I hope they do though. It would be all kinds of awesome.

Lhornbk

Okay, this may actually be the dumbest theory ever. There is NO WAY, absolutely no way she is Lady Death. That's just beyond stupid. Quite frankly, I think Marvel is smart enough not to use Lady Death. To me, that would seriously be jumping the shark and would lose a lot of the general audience. If they do mention Thanos "courting death," it will be shown as him just having a general fascination with death and wanting to send people to it. Portraying Death as a woman to be "courted" because of love is one of those things that works in the comics, but wouldn't work in the movies. And, if they did decide to go that route, then the character would be too important to introduce in a TV show.

And since when does her being an 084 automatically mean she isn't human. So far, it has only been explained as something of unknown origin. It's entirely possible for her to be human without knowing her origin. And yes, she could be Asguardian. They have the exact same anatomy as humans, and are NOT immortal in the MCU, just very long-lived and hard to kill. And remember, Thor had his powers taken away in his 1st movie, so the same thing could have happened to her. And there is no particular reason that other Asguardians would know about her. And even if that one guy did know her, he might not tell. As for Spiderwoman, yes, Marvel does have her rights. And that theory makes a lot more sense than this one does.

Yeaaa...kinda what Lhornbk said only nicer lol.
Theres no way she's Lady Death. Thats just too out there for the tone and approach they've been going with the whole MCU and AoS.
The 084 thing absolutely does not mean that she is an alien or tat she isn't human. It just means they do not know where she came from. Hopefully we find that out before the end of the season.
I think she will be known as a version of Ms. Marvel or is in fact Jessica Drew. I honestly hope it's neither though. The Ms. Marvel thing should be saved for Carol Danvers and the Jessica Drew idea could work but I am now kind of hoping for something that will completely take us by suprise.

I want it to be like "OHHHH SHIT!!" when we find out who she is...just like I was the other night when Coulson opened that tank thingy.

Why exactly does Thanos NEED another reason to go to Earth? If there are Infinity Stones there, which there are, the Tesseract, then thats all the reason he needs to go to, or send someone else to Earth.

We're all assuming he's trying to collect the Infinity Gems, and if thats the case then how exactly would he get the one on Earth without going there or sending someone?

So no, he doesn't need another reason.

Also, i really dont like the idea of Death having to hide and erase her memory of who she is. We're talking about one of the top 5 most powerful entities in the entire Marvel Universe. Anyone more powerful than her would be able to locate her in about 5 seconds, whether she knew who she was or not.

A completely new character?
Mantis?!

Too many options, you could pull up a marvel wiki and go over it all night.

Shave her head, put her in a skimpy outfit, give her a lesbian relationship and make her Moondragon!

Nah, obviously Astrid Mordo or Sister Nil so they can lead in to Doc Strange :)

Actually the term Mutants can be used by Marvel, they still own the TV rights to the X-Men, FOX just owns the film rights

Same with Spider-Man, Sony just owns the film rights

And its been said that the Chitauri in The Avengers were originally gonna be Skrulls, but Marvel felt just randomly throwing them in and not have a chance to tell their backstory would be a waste of using them, so they used Chitauri

So Marvel is also allowed to use Skrulls whether it be on film or TV
