If you had grown up watching the beloved Spectacular Spider-Man animated show, don't worry, he cameo'd in the new Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse film. Or, if you had grown up watching the successor to that program, Ultimate Spider-Man, don't worry either, he cameo'd as well.
The film had featured cameos of various different Spider-Men iterations we had previously seen when we were children, on our big-boxed television screens, but one live-action cameo included in the film was definitely not expected, rather, long-anticipated.
By now it is no deeply kept secret that Donald Glover finally reappeared as Aaron Davis in the film, but more so, introduced us to our first live-action version of the Miles Morales Spider-Man villain, The Prowler. Donald Glover was first introduced as Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but he had not suited up as The Prowler just yet, and has not been seen since.
New behind the scenes photo's of Donald Glover's Prowler had been released, showing just how exactly they managed to film that surprising interaction between Miles and him:
Unlike the other live-action footage of Andrew Garfiled and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Men we were shown by Miguel O'hara in Across The Spider-Verse from the entangled web, this live-action footage had been newly filmed, rather than just re-used as archived footage.
This was a fun day we had playing around with an old pal." - Christopher Miller
Many fans speculate that this version of Aaron Davis is the one we previously saw in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and that we could possibly see him face-off against Tom Holland's Spider-Man, since the circumstances The Prowler was introduced under showed him in one of those pod-prisons in Spider Society which send Spider-Man villains back to their respective earths. This Prowler could most likely be from Tom Holland's Spider-Man's earth.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse producer Phil Lord provided an answer by claiming that the cameo was a "personal reach out" to Glover:
"Yeah, it was definitely a personal reach-out to Donald, who we love and stayed close with. We reached out and were like, 'We thought of something. It will be so easy. And you commit to nothing.' And he was really excited to be part of it. He loved the first movie. He has kids that he wanted to surprise by having dad in the movie." - Phil Lord
Glover had wanted to surprise his kids by taking up such a cool role to play, so it is possible this event could surely be touching base again sometime in the future, but Lord described it as a role where the actor would not have to commit to anything.
