ECHO: Disney+ Series Reportedly Enlists DAREDEVIL And THE PUNISHER Writers

Hawkeye introduced us to Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez, and the plan is for her to take centre stage in spinoff series, Echo. However, news about the show's writing team is generating speculation online...

We don't know when exactly Echo will arrive on Disney+, but there's a lot of excitement for the Hawkeye spinoff. Alaqua Cox proved herself a real talent, but with rumours swirling about the show also including characters like Daredevil and The Kingpin, fans of the Man Without Fear are understandably curious to also see how their story will play out there.

Something that's sure to add more fuel to the speculative fire is the news that the Echo writer's room will include a couple of scribes familiar with the corner of the MCU explored on Netflix.

According to The Illuminerdi, Ken Kristensen and Dara Resnik have both signed up to contribute to the Disney+ series; Kristensen worked on The Punisher for both seasons, while Resnik was among those who worked on Daredevil's critically acclaimed third season.

This doesn't confirm that Matt Murdock or Frank Castle will appear as Marvel Studios might just want writers familiar with telling street level superhero stories. Vigilantism isn't something we've seen explored in the MCU that much, but we definitely can't escape the feeling that Echo will indeed serve as something of a "Daredevil season 3.5" before he gets his own show or movie.

The most important thing will be making sure Maya isn't overshadowed in her own show, but if you're familiar with the comic books, then you'll know how crucial she was to Daredevil's ongoing war with Wilson Fisk.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.

This gives me hope that they will get some of the OG daredevil crew & writers back for his solo series

If Daredevil is in it, then so am I

Ya know what would be even better is if they were brought on to just do a Daredevil show with echo in it instead of the other way around.

After Hawkeye, I still have no genuine interest in her character but Marvel has me conditioned to watch everything they put out so

@tylerzero - Tbh, I'm not sure what all the hype is with Alaqua Cox. I didn't find her to be a very good actress, and def not the charisma to carry her own show. I guess time will tell.

@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - Same here. She sells the hell out of her fight scenes though but yeah beyond that I didn't find her very good.
JstaKIDfrmBKLYN
JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - 1/9/2022, 1:12 PM
@Kingdork - No complaints about the fighting whatsoever. But she has no emotional range. Her face was stuck on an angry pout most the time.

@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - Maybe Cox will have good chemistry with Cox. If you're into that sort of thing.

@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - Her character was not written to display a range of emotions. You can't say an actor has no range when their literal only role is a stoic, no-nonsense gangster.

@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - she legit didn't do anything before Hawkeye, so I feel it was all about her actually being Def (and an amputee though echo isn't in the comics).

@SerKurtWagner - you can when that role is intended to build towards her own series.

@Origame - I don't see your point - She played the role that was written for her. If you don't think the writers sold her spin-off well enough, that's on them.

@tylerzero - It doesn't really matter, because a story revolving around a character makes a world of a difference. Echo in Hawkeye was just an introduction, her own show will (hopefully) flesh out the basic elements of her that are interesting.

@SerKurtWagner - I mean, marvel tends to write the characters to fit the strengths of the actors.

If they bring back Bernthal as Punisher…
Himura
Himura - 1/9/2022, 3:27 PM
@slickrickdesigns - I feel like this is the biggest "what if" in terms of bringing in other Marvel shows. Every thing else you kinda felt like there was a small chance but the Punisher doesnt fit into their family programming at all. Sure we can argue Daredevil was pretty dark but it didnt go as far as Punisher did.

slickrickdesigns - 1/10/2022, 8:16 AM
@Himura - I would say I agree but the Punisher can be brought in at anytime. I would love it to stay more adult oriented and brutal but I wouldn’t mind him being a Winter Soldier type anti hero.

I am officially in obligatory watching mode. If the Hawkeye trailers were more larpy then I could have curbed my enthusiasm accordingly. Cue Larry David gif. Yes I’ll watch this but bring on Moon Knight.

I want to see Typhoid Mary on the Show and Fiona Dourif would be perfect for the role. When Fiona plays a crazy woman, I love it.

@Repian - love Fiona Dourif, that’s a show I could get behind. That’s right. Give her her own show

This is the best news that could be hoped for. No chance of the Netflix characters getting watered down if the original writers come in.

Daredevil and Punisher are peak MCU so count me in!

I wish somehow DD is canon but Punisher not. Somehow.

I'm moderately hyped for Echo, but mostly because I'm super-intrigued by the idea of a Marvel show where the main character, presumably, doesn't speak at all. I'm interested to see what if any effect that has on the story-telling.

Otherwise... eh? The performance was fine, and I acknowledge I'm probably just being weird, but I'm honestly kind of turned off by how quick they were to announce the spinoff, if anything? Like, I know Marvel has a ton of pre-approved stuff in the pipeline and I'm sure the idea of greenlighting things in response to audience response is more performative than anything else, but I don't know. Just not feeling this one.

I guess the best example is, we didn't hear about Agatha's spinoff show until well after Wandavision had wrapped up, and it wasn't officially announced until the same presentation as Echo, but for me at least, Agatha's a much cooler character conceptually and Kathryn Hahn turned in a much more notable performance, so I don't know what it is about Echo specifically that demanded what seems like a much quicker spinoff approval?

It’s tantalising close to getting my hopes up for a show as good as we saw on Netflix. I just don’t want to be disappointed when they wreck a decent fight scene with some duff joke or have Luis from Antman ad a cameo appearance…

i think marvel was expecting the character to be better received that she was.
