The new Marvel Rising franchise kicked off this week with the premiere of Marvel Rising: Initiation, a web series of animated shorts starring "the next generation of Marvel heroes." Although all six episodes debuted online at once, Marvel HQ has done us a solid and compiled them all into one feature-length episode which you can watch below.

Marvel Rising: Initiation ushers in the new universe, but this particular series of shorts is all about Gwen Stacy, aka Ghost-Spider (formerly known as Spider-Gwen). When she's wrongly accused of a crime she didn't commit, she sets out to clear her name and deliver justice to the villain who is really responsible for the death of an innocent person. But as a lead-in to the upcoming animated feature-length film Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, the series also introduces us to other characters, including Rayshaun Lucas's Patriot (Kamil McFadden),  Daisy Johnson's Quake (Chloe Bennet), Kamala Kahn's Ms. Marvel (Kathleen Khavari), Doreen Green's Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub), and Tippy Toe (Dee Bradley Baker).

Gwen Stacy AKA Ghost-Spider, wrongly accused of a crime she didn’t commit, seeks to clear her name and deliver justice. Unfortunately, her dad is not only Captain of the NYPD, but spearheading the manhunt!

To make matters worse, other young heroes—Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake and Patriot—are after Ghost Spider as well. But, as the chase to uncover the truth winds down, a darker threat looms along the horizon, and very soon, these heroes will need to put aside their differences and work together as a team.

Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will premiere later this year and include even more high-profile heroes, including Captain Marvel and America Chavez. Distribution partners have yet to be announced. In the meantime, let us know what you thought of Marvel Rising: Initiation.

@marvel72 - Why have a codename at all if you're going to put your actual name in it? That's like saying, "What's wrong with Superclark or Bruceman?".

@marvel72 - Her name has never been Spider-Gwen, that was only the name of her comic book series and in that her code name is Spider-Woman, because in her universe she was the one bitten by the radioactive spider...

@BackwardGalaxy - They should just call her Spider- Ghost, stick with tradtion and pay a little word pay to the G since her name was spider gwen.

But whatever, I just write my own epic stories and design my own characters, and write them.

I thought that was pretty good, myself. Did a nice job of introducing the characters and making them seem fun enough to want more. Is the villain an original creation, or somebody from the comics?

That art style would seem to lend itself quite well to rule34 exploitation. Just sayin'...

This shit is trash, nothing but comedy and writers who hate super heroes.

Probably gonna be 20 mins of girls sitting around eating food.

Wasn't bad for what it is to be honest. A step up from the usual fare Marvel's been churning out of their animation side.
